VARIOUS OF FIREWORKS SHOW AT STADIUM STORY: Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan played a rare friendly between top European sides during an international break during the season, with the Spaniards edging out the Italian side on penalties following a 1-1 score after 90 minutes. The game was hosted in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi on Friday (October 10) to much fanfare as the North African country seeks to climb out of years of turmoil and instability. The two teams fielded weakened sides as many players are currently on international duty. Atletico fielded three starters from their last match – Antoine Griezmann, Koke and Clement Lenglet, and Inter fielded two starters from their previous match – Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Ange-Yoan Bonny. Atletico's Carlos Martin gave Atletico the lead in the 35th minute after drilling a shot into the bottom corner following a perfectly weighted through ball by Koke. Inter equalised early in the second half when German defender Yann Bisseck headed home a Henrikh Mkhitaryan corner in the 59th minute. Inter brought on a plethora of youngsters and 19-year-old Richi Agbonifo came closest to scoring a winner, but his shot was straight at Atletico keeper Juan Musso. The Argentine keeper was the hero of the shootout, saving penalty kicks from Brazilian winger Luis Henrique and Italian defender Francesco Acerbi to secure a 4-2 shootout win for the Spaniards. The game was sponsored by the Benghazi Reconstruction and Development Fund. The fund is headed by Belgasem Haftar, a son of military commander Khalifa Haftar. The elder Haftar was at the game, saluting crowds after spectators cheered when they saw him on the large screens shortly before half-time. The Benghazi-based government of Osama Hamad is allied to Haftar, who controls the east and large parts of the southern region of Libya. (Production: Mussab Al-Khairalla)
