Sabalenka, coming off a recent injury layoff, struggled early in the match, dropping the first set as she worked to regain her rhythm. However, the Belarusian regrouped to take the next two sets, wrapping up the win in one hour and 58 minutes.  Sabalenka will next face Russia's Liudmila Samsonova. Earlier, Coco Gauff cruised past Moyuka Uchijima with a dominant 6-1 6-0 win in only 51 minutes. Gauff will next  face either home hope Zhang Shuai or Romania’s Sorana Cirstea.
