SPAIN COACH, LUIS DE LA FUENTE, AT PRESS CONFERENCE BEING ASKED IF THERE IS ANY CONFLICT BETWEEN HIM AND BARCELONA COACH HANSI FLICK 24. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) SPAIN COACH, LUIS DE LA FUENTE, ON FLICK AND SUPPORT FROM SPAIN FEDERATION, SAYING: “No, not at all (no conflict with Flick). I know how these things work and I know there is no conflict with Flick or Barca – not at all. I have a great relationship with all of them. We respect each other and we have our roles. There is no issue. And on your other thought, I feel like I am supported completely. I have a contract until 2028, not much more, and beyond that, I want to be here until 2030 for our World Cup (which will be hosted in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco), for me and I think it makes sense for the federation, if everything goes well.” 25. DE LA FUENTE TAKING A QUESTION ON DANI OLMO 26. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) SPAIN COACH, LUIS DE LA FUENTE, ON DANI OLMO AND INJURIES, SAYING: “I dislike any soccer player being injured. I’ve always said that. That’s the ugly side of soccer. It is a risk we have to take. Injuries are unfortunately, a part of soccer. And with what is happening with Dani (Olmo), we have to wait for the medical report, but it upsets me. Especially because with Dani, well with all of them, but with some of them, it’s not that I care about them more, but I’ve been with them longer and given what it means for the squad, well it upsets me more. But the ugly side is the injuries. Whether it happens at one club or another, they are unfortunate circumstances that happen because it is part of soccer. It’s the ugly side.” 27. DE LA FUENTE TAKING A QUESTION 28. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) SPAIN COACH, LUIS DE LA FUENTE, ON INJURIES, SAYING: “The only thing that worries me is getting to that part of the season, like in June, and that there will be injuries, physical issues, this is what worries me. And so hopefully we have everyone (to choose from) because then I can’t make a mistake because they are all really great.” 29. DE LA FUENTE TAKING A QUESTION ON INJURIES 30. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) SPAIN COACH, LUIS DE LA FUENTE, ON DANI OLMO AND INJURIES, SAYING: “Dani (Olmo) trained all week. He arrived here tired and something was bothering him. And today at training, after about 15 minutes something was bothering him and so we said he should stop training. He went to do some tests, and we will see. Everyone else is in good shape.” 31. DE LA FUENTE TAKING A QUESTION ON IF IT IS DIZZYING TO BE THE TOP RANKED SQUAD 32. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) SPAIN COACH, LUIS DE LA FUENTE, ON IF IT IS DIZZYING TO BE THE TOP RANKED SQUAD, SAYING: “It doesn’t make us feel dizzy knowing that we’re going to compete – first of all, we have to qualify for the World Cup. We’re going to qualify. And once we’ve qualified, then we will focus more on the goal of the World Cup. But just to fight to win it doesn’t make us feel dizzy. I always say you can’t make winning or losing a dramatic thing. Soccer is tough, sport is tough, and to be champion of anything is really hard. I think being in the position to do so is the real success. And I think we can reach that point. I think we have a great squad.” 33. DE LA FUENTE LEAVING PRESS CONFERENCE STORY: Spain coach Luis de la Fuente said he has no issues with Barcelona coach Hansi Flick who last month said Spain should take better care of players when they are called up for international duty. “There is no conflict with Flick or Barca – not at all. I have a great relationship with all of them. We respect each other and we have our roles. There is no issue,” the Spain coach said on Friday (October 10) at a press conference ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Georgia. Earlier this week, Flick said he was being protective of Lamine Yamal when he remarked last month that the Spain team should take better care of players after the 18-year-old's groin injury flared up again, sidelining him for two to three weeks. Further complicating relations between Spain and Barcelona, De la Fuente said another Barcelona player, Dani Olmo, left Friday’s training session early after suffering another injury. “Dani (Olmo) trained all week. He arrived here tired and something was bothering him. And today at training, after about 15 minutes something was bothering him and so we said he should stop training. He went to do some tests, and we will see,” De la Fuente said. Spain are set to face Georgia in Elche on Saturday (October 11) before hosting Bulgaria in Valladolid on Tuesday (October 14) as they aim to secure their place in the 2026 World Cup. Spain currently top Group E of European qualifying with six points from two matches, with Georgia and Turkey trailing by three points.
