MEDVEDEV DRESSED IN TRADITIONAL KAZAKHSTAN OUTFIT RECEIVES TROPHY STORY: Former world number one Daniil Medvedev ended an 882-day wait for his 21st ATP Tour title when he beat Corentin Moutet 7-5 4-6 6-3 in the Almaty Open final on Sunday (October 19). Russian Medvedev, 29, last won a title at the Italian Open in May 2023 and has lost six finals since, including the U.S. Open and Australian Open. Medvedev, ranked 14th in the world, needed three sets to end the losing streak in a final lasting two hours and 38 minutes. He was a break down in the first set but won four of the final five games to take the lead, including a pulsating set point that ended with Moutet smashing his racquet on the floor in disappointment. The Frenchman bounced back in the second set to force a decider, which ended with the pair exchanging volleys at the net on championship point.
