VIDEO SHOWS: HIGHLIGHTS FROM GAME ONE OF THE MLB AMERICAN LEAGUE WILD CARD SERIES BETWEEN THE NEW YORK YANKEES AND THE BOSTON RED SOX AT YANKEE STADIUM COMPLETE SCRIPT TO FOLLOW SHOWS: LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES (SEPTEMBER 30, 2025) (MLB – See restrictions) SHOTLIST TO FOLLOW STORY: Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernandez each hit a pair of home runs, Blake Snell went seven strong innings and the Los Angeles Dodgers finished off a 10-5 victory over the visiting Cincinnati Reds in Game 1 of their National League wild-card series on Tuesday (September 30). Tommy Edman added a homer as the defending champion Dodgers moved a victory away from a matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL Division Series. The Dodgers' five home runs tied a franchise record for a playoff game. Snell (1-0) gave up two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and one walk in his first playoff start since 2022, when he was a member of the San Diego Padres. Reds right-hander Hunter Greene (0-1) allowed five runs on six hits, including three home runs, in three innings as the Reds continue to search for their first playoff victory since 2012. He struck out four and walked two. Elly De La Cruz drove in two runs and scored one for Cincinnati. The Reds' offense came to life late, scoring all five runs over the final three innings. Ohtani turned around a 100.4 mph fastball from Greene in the opening inning with a line-drive home run to right field that came off the bat at 117.7 mph. Los Angeles took control in the third when Freddie Freeman and Max Muncy walked with one out and Hernandez hit a home run to left field for a 4-0 lead. Edman followed two pitches later with a long ball down the right field line. Reds manager Terry Francona said of Greene, "He didn't locate, and he threw a couple of breaking balls — one to Teoscar and the next one to Edman — that wasn't where he was trying to throw them. And when he didn't locate, he really paid the price for it. … If you make a mistake, they can really make you pay." In the fifth, Hernandez added his second home run, this one off Connor Phillips for a 6-0 advantage. It was his second career multi-homer game in the postseason, as he accomplished the feat for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2022. Ohtani added his second homer in the sixth, also against Phillips, for his first postseason multi-homer game. Ohtani's power display came after a 55-homer regular season that broke his own franchise record set last season. De La Cruz got the Reds on the scoreboard in the seventh with an RBI grounder before scoring on a Tyler Stephenson double. The Dodgers got the runs right back on an error by Reds right fielder Noelvi Marte and an RBI single from Ben Rortvedt to go up 10-2. The wayward Dodgers bullpen struggled in its first inning of the playoffs as Alex Vesia, Edgardo Henriquez and Jack Dreyer all pitched in the eighth, combining to allow three runs with four walks. The Reds' Sal Stewart and De La Cruz each had a bases-loaded walk, and Spencer Steer had an RBI single. MESSI WALKING BACK AFTER INTER MIAMI'S 3-5 DEFEAT  STORY: Justin Reynolds and Brian Gutierrez scored late to lift the visiting Chicago Fire to a playoff-clinching 5-3 victory on Tuesday (September 30) over Lionel Messi and Inter Miami, bringing a wild end to the league's longest active postseason drought. Dje D'Avilla, Jonathan Dean and Rominigue Kouame also scored and Maren Haile-Selassie notched two assists for Chicago (15-11-6, 51 points), which guaranteed its first playoff qualification since 2017 and moved above Columbus into eighth place in the Eastern Conference. Luis Suarez scored his eighth and ninth goals to erase Miami's two-goal deficit in the second half. But the Herons missed a crucial opportunity to close ground on the Philadelphia Union in the Supporters' Shield race. Tomas Aviles also scored for Miami (16-7-8, 56 points), which remained fourth in the Eastern Conference with the defeat. The Herons will be eliminated from contention for the Shield and the top East spot if Philadelphia wins one of its final two matches. Miami pressured for much of the second half, but struggled with transition defending all game long. That showed up on Chicago's decisive goal during a slow-developing counterattack in the 80th minute. Hugo Cuypers twice had pass attempts near the top of the box blocked during the sequence, But even after that, Gutierrez had time to play a give-and-go with Mauricio Pineda before getting to the byline and guiding a low cross to the back post for Reynolds' easy finish. Gutierrez added an exclamation point three minutes later, unfurling a ferocious strike from about 25 yards out that left goalkeeper Oscar Ustari little chance as it sailed into the top right corner. After Messi and Tadeo Allende both hit the woodwork in the 52nd minute, Suarez cut Miami's deficit to 3-2 with an off-balance finish in the 57th minute. Baltasar Rodriguez provided the line-breaking pass to put Suarez into the box, and the veteran Uruguayan striker rode Jack Elliot's challenge while driving a low finish past Chris Brady inside the right post. Seventeen minutes later, Suarez showed the finishing class that once made him a 20-plus goal-scorer nine times between Ajax, Liverpool and Barcelona. After Rodriguez found Jordi Alba wide left, Suarez received Alba's ball into the box with his first touch. Then, with his second, he snapped off a perfect finish inside the right post from about 15 yards out. (Production: Bhagya Ayyavoo)

Nick Sogard hit another changeup for a hustle double to right field, putting runners at second and third. Yoshida batted for Rob Refsnyder and the Red Sox went ahead when he hit a fastball to center field for a base hit, scoring both runners. In the top of the ninth, Bregman doubled to left field off David Bednar after Trevor Story singled and stole second. Fried allowed four hits in his New York postseason debut. The left-hander struck out six and walked three, including a free pass to Carlos Narvaez in the sixth on a nine-pitch plate appearance that drove up his pitch count.
