VIDEO SHOWS: HIGHLIGHTS FROM AUSTRALIAN MOTOGP RACING / SOUNDBITE OF MOTOGP WINNER RAUL FERNANDEZ/ MOTO2 RACE HIGHLIGHTS/ MOTO3 RACE HIGHLIGHTS COMPLETE SHOTLIST TO FOLLOW SHOWS: PHILLIP ISLAND, AUSTRALIA (OCTOBER 19, 2025) (DORNA – See restrictions) STORY: Raul Fernandez delivered a dominant performance to claim his maiden MotoGP victory at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday (October 19), securing a first-ever triumph for Trackhouse Racing in the premier class. Sprint-winner Marco Bezzecchi, who began second on the grid, made an electric start to snatch the lead from pole-sitter Fabio Quartararo before the first corner. The Italian's rapid getaway also allowed Fernandez and Pedro Acosta to overtake Quartararo, who had set a record-breaking lap in Saturday's qualifying. However, Bezzecchi charge was short-lived, as he had to serve a double long lap penalty for his collision with newly-crowned MotoGP champion Marc Marquez at the Indonesian Grand Prix. The Aprilia rider served his penalty and fought his way back to an impressive third-place finish. Fernandez capitalised on Bezzecchi's setback to take the lead, and once he found himself with clear track ahead, the 24-year-old Spaniard was untouchable. Fernandez's triumph marked a milestone for Aprilia, as they became the most successful European manufacturer in the history of Grand Prix racing with a 300th victory. Acosta, Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio traded places in a fierce contest before VR46 Racing's Di Giannantonio managed to clinch second place, with Bezzecchi completing the podium after his remarkable recovery. In Moto2 category, Australian rider Senna Agius thrilled his home crowd with a decisive victory, leading every lap to secure his second career win. Agius, starting from second on the grid, surged into the lead at Turn 1 and maintained a dominant pace throughout the race, finishing three seconds ahead at the chequered flag. Diogo Moreira took second position after a strong start, staying ahead of title contender Manuel Gonzalez throughout the opening lap, adding pressure to the championship battle. In Moto3 category, Jose Antonio Rueda showcased his supremacy, securing his 10th victory of the season with a commanding performance. The newly crowned Moto3 champion, starting second on the grid, moved into the lead on lap seven and held off local favourite Joel Kelso in a decisive final-lap showdown to clinch the win. Polesitter Kelso initially regained the lead at Turn 3 after losing it at the start but was ultimately unable to match Rueda's pace, finishing second in front of the home crowd. DALLAS TEAM CELEBRATING STORY: Midfielder Kaick scored the go-ahead goal in the 47th minute and goaltender Michael Collodi made six saves to make it stand up as visiting FC Dallas clinched a playoff berth with a 2-1 Decision Day victory over 10-man Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday (October 18) night. Osaze Urhoghide also scored for Dallas (11-12-11, 44 points), which leapfrogged Portland, a 4-0 loser to San Diego FC, into seventh place in the Western Conference. Thomas Mueller scored on a penalty kick and Yohei Takaoka finished with five saves for Vancouver (18-7-9, 63 points), which finished even in points at the top of Western Conference with San Diego but will go into the MLS Cup playoffs as the number two seed because San Diego (19-6-9, 63 points) won the tiebreaker with more wins. That also sets up a best-of-three rematch between the Whitecaps and Dallas in the first round of the playoffs. The game took a dramatic turn in the 11th minute when Vancouver defender Mathias Laborda was sent off with a red card for tripping forward Sam Sarver as he ran toward the box down the right side of the field. Laborda was originally awarded a yellow card but referee Allen Chapman upgraded the penalty to a red card for denying an obvious scoring opportunity after a VAR review. Dallas then took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute on Urhoghide's header inside the back post on a corner kick. It was the second goal of the season for Urhoghide. Vancouver tied it in the 28th minute on Mueller's seventh goal in seven MLS games, a right-footed penalty shot into the bottom-right corner. The score was set up after Dallas defender Lalas Abubakar dragged down Emmanuel Sabbi rushing down the right side of the box. Dallas regained the lead early in the second half on Kaick's left-footed shot from the middle of the box into the middle of the net off a Sarver pass. Vancouver nearly tied it in the 76th minute on a left-footed shot by Jeevan Badwal in the middle of the box but Collodi got his left hand on the shot and the ball trickled just wide of the right post. VIDEO SHOWS: HIGHLIGHTS FROM COLORADO RAPIDS V LOS ANGELES FOOTBALL CLUB IN THE MLS SHOWS: COMMERCE CITY, COLORADO, UNITED STATES (OCTOBER 18, 2025) (SOCCER UNITED MARKETING – See restrictions) COMPLETE SHOTLIST TO FOLLOW STORY: Andrew Moran scored in the 90th minute shortly after Los Angeles FC fell behind to help his squad earn a 2-2 tie with the Colorado Rapids in a Decision Day match on Saturday (October 18) night at Commerce City, Colo. Darren Yapi scored in the 87th minute to put Colorado ahead and better the squad's chance of sneaking into the playoffs. But the Rapids couldn't answer Moran's goal and were eliminated from the Western Conference playoff race. Los Angeles FC (17-8-9, 60 points) finished third in the West and will face number six seed Austin FC in the first round of the postseason. Colorado's playoff chases evaporated with FC Dallas and the San Jose Earthquakes winning their matches and Real Salt Lake playing to a draw. Colorado (11-15-8, 41 points) officially finishes 11th in the West despite tying with Real Salt Lake and San Jose in points. The top nine make the playoffs. Yapi temporarily put Colorado into playoff position as well as giving his team the lead for the first time with a diving header that went past LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. The goal was set up by a cross from Oliver Larraz. LAFC quickly answered and Jeremy Ebobisse's right-footer was stopped. The rebound came to Moran and he sent a right-footed shot into the net. Heung-Min Son also scored for LAFC, who had won six of their previous seven matches. Paxten Aaronsen had the other tally for the Rapids, who went 0-2-2 over their final four matches. Zack Steffen made seven saves. The Rapids were having trouble manufacturing scoring chances but took advantage of a major mistake by LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to tie the score in the 62th minute. Lloris was nonchalant while dribbling the ball in front of his own net and Aaronsen began his approach. Lloris attempted to kick the ball to his left but Aaronsen took a swipe with his right foot and booted the ball into the net. LAFC outshot the Rapids 13-1 in the first half but only possessed a 1-0 lead. Denis Bouanga had a close-range chance in the 34th minute but his right-footed shot bounced off Steffen's upper arm near the shoulder. Eight minutes later, Son dribbled in toward the net and unleashed a left-footed blast that went right over Steffen and into the net. It was Son's ninth goal in 10 MLS matches with LAFC.
