FOUR STILL PHOTOGRAPHS OF 'TRIONDA' THE OFFICIAL MATCH BALL FOR 2026  WORLD CUP 2. STILL PHOTOGRAPH OF THE NEW BALLS TRIONDA 3. TWO STILL PHOTOGRAPHS OF FIFA PRESIDENT GIANNI INFANTINO POSING WITH OFFICIAL MATCH BALL STORY: FIFA has launched the official match ball for the 2026 World Cup, a vibrant sphere called TRIONDA that celebrates the tournament's historic three-nation hosting arrangement while packing cutting-edge technology to help referees make split-second decisions. The adidas-designed ball takes its name from the Spanish for "three waves" – a nod to Canada, Mexico and the United States jointly staging football's biggest show for the first time. Its eye-catching red, green and blue color scheme honors each host nation, while a revolutionary four-panel construction creates wave-like geometry across its surface. "The Official Match Ball for the FIFA World Cup 26 is here and it's a beauty!" declared FIFA President Gianni Infantino after unveiling it on Friday (October 3). "I can't wait to see this beautiful ball hitting the back of the net. The countdown to the greatest FIFA World Cup ever is on – and the ball is rolling!" TRIONDA features national symbols for each host – Canada's maple leaf, Mexico's eagle and the United States' star – with gold touches paying tribute to the World Cup trophy itself. But beyond the aesthetics lies serious technology: intentionally deep seams create optimal flight stability, while embossed icons boost grip in wet conditions. Most significantly, the ball contains a 500Hz motion sensor chip that tracks every movement in real time, feeding precise data to video assistant referees to help with crucial decisions including offside calls. The launch adds to mounting excitement ahead of the tournament, following the unveiling of official mascots and news that over 4.5 million fans from 216 countries entered the initial ticket draw. The final tournament draw takes place in Washington DC on December 5, 2025. (Production: Bhagya Ayyavoo)
