Amanda Anisimova (calf) withdraws from Wuhan Open

Amanda Anisimova withdrew from this week's Wuhan Open because of a left calf injury after a winning the China Open last week while playing through multiple ailments. Anisimova not only had a wisdom tooth extracted before the China Open began, she aggravated a left foot and calf injury after her first-round victory at Beijing. An ankle injury forced her to withdraw from last month's Korea Open. Despite her injuries, Anisimova captured her fourth career win with a 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Czech Linda Noskova on Sunday. It was her second career WTA 1000 title, winning both this season. Anisimova, 24, who had been lined up as the No. 4 seed at the Wuhan Open, also was the runner-up at both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open this year. "I think it was obvious in one of the matches where I was in pain," Anisimova said after her victory Sunday. I was just hurting all day when I was walking. I'm still having a bit of pain, but it's nothing series. It's just annoying aches and pains." –Field Level Media
