(Adds more detail, background from paragraph 2-5) Oct 3 (Reuters) – Advisers to Pakistani army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir have approached U.S. officials with an offer to build and run a port on the Arabian Sea, the Financial Times reported on Friday, citing a plan seen by the newspaper. The plan envisages American investors building and operating a terminal to access Pakistan's critical minerals in the town of Pasni, according to the FT. Pasni is a port town in Gwadar District in the province of Balochistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran. The move comes after Munir, along with Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, held a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House in September. In that meeting, Sharif sought investment from U.S. companies in the agriculture, technology, mining and energy sectors for investment. After taking their first loss on the field last week, the Indianapolis Colts absorbed one off the field ahead of a Sunday home game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Indianapolis (3-1) found out Wednesday night that cornerback Xavien Howard, who started the team's first four games, is retiring. Howard was a two-time All-Pro from 2016-23 with Miami, twice leading the league in interceptions. CONCORD, N.C.–Recovering from a first-lap crash in "Calamity Corner", Corey Heim rallied to win Friday's EcoSave 250 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course, setting a single-season NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series record with his 10th win of the 2025 campaign, breaking the tie with Greg Biffle. Driving a heavily taped No. 11 TRICON Garage Toyota, Heim took the lead by staying out for an overtime restart while teammate Brent Crews, who had led a race-high 56 laps, pitted for fuel and tires. Heim drove away on the restart and beat runner-up Crews to the finish line by 1.338 seconds, leading the first-ever 1-2-3 finish for TRICON, with rookie Gio Ruggiero coming home third. "It was not easy today — I think it was probably the toughest one of the year so far," said Heim, who secured a spot in the Oct. 31 Championship 4 finale at Phoenix Raceway. "Just shows the resilience of this TRICON team. They fixed it up so good for me after that incident on the first lap — just kind of out of our control. "I thought we were done, honestly. The right front completely folded when it hit the wall over there." In fact, the race was just a few seconds old when three playoff drivers tangled in Turn 1, nicknamed "Calamity Corner" as the frequent scene of accidents at the 2.28-mile, 17-turn circuit. "We were not as good as we were in practice and qualifying after that damage," said the 23-year-old Heim, who earned his first victory at the Roval and the 21st of his career, seventh all-time. "My steering wheel was about 45 degrees to the left, and we came down pit road like six times to try to get it back to at least somewhat where it was." As Heim worked his way back to the front after the accident, Crews dominated, though he short-pitted in both the first and second stages to set up track position after the breaks. In fact, Crews appeared bound for his first victory in the series before another TRICON teammate, Toni Breidinger, stalled in Turn 5 to cause the fourth and final caution, sending the race to overtime. Crews came to pit road from the lead with third-place Connor Zilisch, as Heim stayed on track with Connor Mosack, Riggs and Chandler Smith. Riggs, who had been racing without a sway bar since the early crash, suffered clutch issues on the restart and held up the outside lane. With trucks spinning behind him, Heim opened a gap and maintained it throughout the two- lap extra period. "We had a super-fast truck, as you got to see," Crews said philosophically. "I'm out there leading the race today — I had a blast. Really happy for TRICON today to go 1-2-3, and congrats to the whole 11 team. They did a great job all day as well. "I was happy to see them get back up there, but I definitely didn't want to stay out there (for the overtime)." With Heim advancing to the Championship 4, the other seven playoff drivers left the opening race in the Round of 8 clustered together around the elimination line. "I don't really understand what his thought process is. People say you're supposed to take advice from the veterans and learn from them of how to race, and they race the worst out of anybody. "That's twice this year we've gotten wrecked by the 9 truck — at Watkins Glen and here, both road courses, two separate incidents, two blatantly wrong on his part. We drug a sway bar arm off after that contact and just had a terrible handling truck the rest of the day. "At the end, we were just going to try to salvage something, but something in the rear end housing broke, or a clutch started slipping, but I had no power there at the end." Grupo Mexico, controlled by German Larrea, one of the nation's wealthiest men, said in a filing that the bid showed its "unwavering confidence" in the country and that such a purchase would once again make Banamex competitive among its peers. Citi said in a statement to Reuters that it had not yet received the offer, but that a previous deal to sell a 25% stake in Banamex to local billionaire Fernando Chico Pardo and list the rest was still its preferred outcome. Under its offer, Grupo Mexico would purchase 25% of Banamex at 0.85x book value, and the remaining 75% at 0.80x book value, it said. Citi paid $12.5 billion for Banamex in 2001. The offer from Grupo Mexico comes a week after Chico Pardo, who chairs airport operator ASUR, tied up a deal for a 25% stake at 0.80x book value, or around $2.3 billion. Analysts speculated at the time that by Citi accepting a deal below book value, it would effectively create a "floor" for a planned initial public offering (IPO) for the rest of the firm. GOVERNMENT TENSIONS PREVIOUSLY TRIPPED UP DEAL Citi had previously sought outright buyers for Banamex, with Grupo Mexico coming the closest to sealing the deal. However, talks dissolved in 2023 after tensions with the administration of then-President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador led the two sides to abandon an agreement. Lopez Obrador had demanded the firm remain in Mexican hands and that the new owner not be allowed to cut costs through layoffs. Chico Pardo said last week that current President Claudia Sheinbaum had not put such conditions on his purchase. Grupo Mexico said in the filing on Friday that safeguarding Banamex's workforce would be among its priorities. FUTURE OF BANAMEX After the original Grupo Mexico deal fell through, Citi opted to pursue an IPO for Banamex. That was still on the table after Chico Pardo bought in, executives said last week. Grupo Mexico's bid would do away with the need for that. Grupo Mexico said that while it intended to purchase the whole firm, if Chico Pardo wished to maintain his stake, Grupo Mexico's bid would be reduced to 75% of the firm at 0.80x book value. More Mexican investors and pension funds could join in the future, Grupo Mexico said. Citi said the previous plan was still on track, though it added the company was "committed to realizing the full value of Banamex for (its) shareholders." "If an offer is presented by Grupo Mexico, we will of course review it in a responsible manner and consider, among other risk factors, the ability to obtain required regulatory approvals and the certainty of closing a proposed transaction," Citi said.
