(Reuters) -Dell on Tuesday nearly doubled its annual profit growth target for the next four years, betting on robust demand for its servers that power artificial intelligence workloads. The company, whose customers include Elon Musk's AI startup xAI and CoreWeave, lifted its expectations for annual growth in adjusted earnings per share to at least 15% from around 8%. Its shares surged nearly 3% in early trading after the company also said it expects compounded annual revenue growth between 7% and 9% for the next four years, up from its prior view of 3% to 4%. Insatiable demand for servers that provide the computing power needed to run services such as ChatGPT has turned Dell into one of the biggest winners of the generative AI boom. Its strong profit growth expectation may also ease investor concerns about the margin hit from competition in AI servers and the high costs of building the products. Dell also reiterated its third-quarter and annual forecasts. It had raised its expectation for AI server shipments in August to $20 billion for fiscal 2026. "Customers are hungry for AI and the compute, storage and networking we provide to deploy intelligence at scale," CEO Michael Dell said, adding that the company was in the early stages of AI adoption despite two years of progress. Dell expects long-term compounded annual revenue growth of 11% to 14% for the infrastructure solutions group – home to its storage, software and server offerings. By Foo Yun Chee BRUSSELS (Reuters) -Boeing is set to gain EU antitrust approval for its $4.7 billion acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems, with remedies to address EU concerns expected to include sales of some of the latter's businesses, people with direct knowledge of the matter said. Boeing announced the deal in July last year, aiming to streamline its operations and improve quality control, years after spinning off the key airline supplier. Boeing's remedies to address EU competition worries are expected to be those the companies announced at the time of the acquisition agreement, the people said. These are the sale of Spirit's loss-making Europe-focused activities to Airbus and the divestment of Spirit's operations in Prestwick, Scotland, and in Subang, Malaysia, that support Airbus programmes, as well as those in Belfast that do not support Airbus programmes. The European Commission, which acts as the EU's competition enforcer, is scheduled to make a decision by October 14. Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems declined to comment. Britain's competition agency cleared the deal without conditions in August. Boeing has long considered buying back its former subsidiary, which analysts say has struggled to thrive independently despite diversifying into work for Europe's Airbus and others. The decision to go ahead comes as Boeing tries to resolve a sprawling corporate and industrial crisis that has engulfed one of the industry's key suppliers. Donald Tusk said that ultimately it was for the court to decide whether Volodymyr Z., who was detained near Warsaw in late September, is handed over. But he reiterated Poland's long-standing opposition to the pipelines, which Warsaw says were key to making Europe too dependent on Russian energy. "The problem of Europe, the problem of Ukraine, the problem of Lithuania and Poland is not that Nord Stream 2 was blown up, but that it was built," Tusk told a news conference. "It is certainly not in the interest of Poland… to hand over this citizen to a foreign country," he added. German authorities did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A Polish court ruled on Monday that Volodymyr Z. must remain in custody for another 40 days while a decision is made on whether to transfer him to Germany based on a European arrest warrant. Described by both Moscow and the West as an act of sabotage, the explosions in 2022 marked an escalation in the Ukraine conflict and squeezed energy supplies. No one has taken responsibility for the blasts and Ukraine has denied any role. The August data had been expected to show a more permanent impact of U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs on Canada , after exports increased earlier in the year to beat the tariffs and then dropped off sharply. Total exports dropped by 3% in August from July while imports increased 0.9%, Statistics Canada said. It was the first decrease in total exports since April. In volume terms exports fell 2.8% in August. "This was not a good report. It was a pretty rough month," said Stuart Bergman, chief economist at Export Development Canada. "What we are starting to see is the impact of tariffs coming into full view," he said, adding that as the volatility of the fist few months have passed, the more normalized impact on trade was visible. Analysts polled by Reuters had forecast the August trade deficit at C$5.55 billion, up from a upwardly revised C$3.82 billion in the prior month. Trump imposed sectoral tariffs on Canada early this year, forcing businesses to reorient supply chain from its biggest trading partner. But the shift has been volatile, erratic and difficult. Overall, exports dropped in eight of the 11 product sections in August with forestry, industrial machinery and metals leading the charge. Exports to the U.S. were at C$44.18 billion, down 3.4% from July, StatsCan said, adding it was primarily led by unwrought gold exports. But other product categories contributed to the decline, including lumber, machinery and equipment. Canada's share of exports to the U.S. fell below 70% a few months ago before recovering to 73% in August, compared with 75% during the same period last year. Prime Minister Mark Carney will be meeting with Trump on Tuesday as he comes under pressure to address the impacts of U.S. tariffs on critical sectors such as steel, cars and lumber. Imports from the U.S. were down 1.4% in August on a monthly basis, shrinking the total trade surplus with its southern neighbor to C$6.43 billion from C$7.42 billion in July. Exports to countries other than the United States were down 2% in August, a third consecutive monthly decline, Statscan said. Lower exports of crude oil and nuclear fuel contributed the most to the monthly decrease. However, Canada's imports from the rest of the world barring the U.S. rose 4.2%, reaching a record in August, StatsCan's data showed, pushing Canada's trade deficit with countries other than the United States to a record high of C$12.8 billion in August from C$11.2 billion in July, StatsCan said. Los Angeles (dpa) – Over the past decade, the use of inhalers has generated the same amount of emissions in the US as around half a million petrol or diesel cars, according to researchers who describe much of this everyday asthma medication as a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions. As governments around the world seek ways to drive down the emissions causing climate change, a team at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), is calling for health care systems to shift away from common inhalers with high emissions. "Inhalers add to the growing carbon footprint of the US health care system," said William Feldman, a pulmonologist and health services researcher at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine. Metered-dose inhalers are "the most harmful" as they contain propellants similar to those used in aerosol sprays, according to the team, which said some 1.6 billion inhalers were dispensed in the US between 2014 and 2024. "Other types of inhalers, which include dry inhalers and soft powder mist inhalers, are less harmful to the environment as they deliver medication to the lungs without the need for propellants," the researchers said. Published by the American Medical Association, the study was based in part on inhaler prescription data, according to the researchers. The team's estimates for emissions were generated by using what they said were validated academic studies and "analyzed by drug type, device type, propellant type, therapeutic class, branded status, manufacturer, payer and pharmacy benefit manager."
