Former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez has been hospitalized after being stabbed in Indianapolis early Saturday morning, TMZ reported. Per the report, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a "disturbance in an alley" call at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Saturday Sanchez, who was rushed to the hospital, was in Indianapolis to call Sunday's game between the host Colts and Las Vegas Raiders at Lucas Oil Stadium. "Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition," Fox Sports said in a statement. "We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family's privacy during this time." Sanchez, 38, was selected by the Jets with the fifth overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft and guided the club to two straight AFC Championship Game appearances. He posted a 37-36 record and threw for 15,357 yards with 86 touchdowns and 89 interceptions with the Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and the Washington franchise. In college, Sanchez was a big star for Southern California in 2008 when he passed for 3,207 yards, 34 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. After missing the wild-card round, Detroit infielder Colt Keith is back on the roster for the Tigers' American League Divisional Series against Seattle. Keith, who was activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday after missing time with right rib cage inflammation, was left off the Tigers' 26-man roster for their wild-card series at Cleveland which they won in three games. The 24-year-old lefty has a .256 average with 13 homers, 22 doubles and 65 runs in 137 games this season. In seven playoff games last season, Keith was 2-for-18 (.111) with a double, six walks and eight strikeouts. Keith started 32 games at third base this season. Zach McKinstry (.259, 12 homers this season) has largely replaced him there while Keith missed the end of the regular season. Detroit also added right-handed reliever Brenan Hanifee (3-3, 3.00 ERA) to its ALDS roster, removing reliever Paul Sewald (1-1, 4.58) and outfielder Justyn- Henry Malloy (.221-1-17) from its wild-card roster. By Martyn Herman LONDON, Oct 4 (Reuters) – Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard's injury curse struck again as the midfielder was forced off with a knee injury during the first half of his side's 2-0 Premier League win against West Ham United on Saturday. Odegaard clashed knees with a West Ham player in a tackle and although the Norwegian tried to continue he was eventually replaced by Martin Zubimendi after 30 minutes. "It's uncomfortable, I just spoke to him and he's not positive about it and was wearing a brace," manager Mikel Arteta told reporters. "We'll have to wait and see the extent of the injury. We'll find solutions but obviously he's our captain and brings a different dimension with the things he can do." Odegaard's injury was especially disappointing after his scintillating display against Olympiakos in the Champions League in midweek when he had returned to the starting line-up and inspired his side to a 2-0 win. In his last three Premier League starts, Odegaard has failed to reach halftime, having injured his shoulder against Leeds United in August and suffering a recurrence of that injury against Nottingham Forest last month. There was a further worry for Arteta on his 300th game in charge with Declan Rice, scorer of the opening goal, also having to go off in the second half with a back niggle. "No, he's not alright, because he asked me to come off," Arteta said. "That's a shame. He had pain in his back. Let's see what the doctor says now and what is best for him." While the injuries did rather take the gloss off Arsenal's win, the fact that they were able to shrug off those setbacks with ease to move top of the table showed the depth of quality Arteta now has at his disposal. Gabriel Martinelli, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri and Mikel Merino also came off the bench in the second half. "The players who came on contributed to maintaining the standards. * Verstappen and Hamilton say vest should be optional * Singapore race declared a heat hazard SINGAPORE, Oct 4 (Reuters) – Champions Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton urged Formula One's governing body not to make cooling vests mandatory at hot races after a steamy qualifying session in Singapore on Saturday. The race weekend has been declared a heat hazard because of the high temperatures, meaning drivers can either wear a vest which circulates cold liquid through tubes to maintain body temperature, or add extra ballast to their cars. The vests are set to become mandatory in hot conditions from next season. Red Bull's four-times champion Verstappen, already steamed up about being slowed by McLaren's Lando Norris ahead of him in qualifying, said the vests should remain optional. VERSTAPPEN SAYS VEST MUST BE A DRIVER'S CHOICE "I haven't used the vest. I'm also not intending to use it because I feel like this needs to be a driver choice," he explained after qualifying second. "From the FIA side, they will always throw it on safety — but then we can talk about a lot of stuff that can be improved on safety, including pit entries in certain places. I think that has a bit more priority than a vest in the car because I don’t like it. "I don’t like the tubes that are on you, on your body, with the belts that go next to you. Then they can say it’s a bad design. I disagree. It just needs to be an option for the drivers to choose." Verstappen pointed out that Formula One cars were very different to sportscars and the narrow cockpits had limited space for extra equipment. "Where are you going to put the dry ice? The cars are not designed really to have this extra kind of space, and within 15, 20 laps, it’s anyway gone. And then you have hot water … or tea," he said. Ferrari driver Hamilton, who won six of his seven titles with Mercedes, told reporters the vests should not be "forced" on anyone. "They keep saying it's a safety issue, but there's no driver that's ever died from overheating in the race, apart from obviously in flames back in the day," said the 40-year-old Briton. "It's just getting silly. That should be our choice to have it." REGULATION INTRODUCED AFTER 2023 QATAR GRAND PRIX The heat hazard regulation was introduced after drivers suffered exhaustion in the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix. Some are also fans of the vests. Mercedes' George Russell, a director of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association, said after securing pole that he had used it already in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. "Of course, here it is much hotter. The dry ice will melt faster," he said, adding that the team had also managed to reduce cockpit temperatures by moving electrical boxes and hydraulic lines. McLaren's championship leader Oscar Piastri, third on the grid, said he had used the vest in practice but was yet to be convinced and it was important to have a choice. "I think the problem with the suit is it's great when it works, but if it fails, it's even worse than not having it," said the Australian. Williams' Carlos Sainz, another GPDA director, said he would be happy for it remain optional even though he was convinced the vest worked and had advantages. "I agree with the guys that don't want to use it. If they don't want to because they feel really uncomfortable then don't use it," said the Spaniard.
