(Reuters) -Bank of America raised the lower end of its interest income forecast and beat Wall Street estimates for profit, as its investment bankers benefited from a bumper third quarter. The second-largest U.S. bank now expects fourth-quarter NII between $15.6 billion and $15.7 billion, up about 8% from a year earlier. The Federal Reserve's 25-basis-point cut in September could stoke demand from borrowers. Shares of the lender were up about 4% in trading before the bell. INTEREST INCOME BOOST Net interest income — or the difference between what the bank earns on loans and pays out on deposits — rose 9% to $15.2 billion in the quarter from a year earlier. BofA had previously said it expects record net interest income in 2025. "Strong loan and deposit growth, coupled with effective balance sheet positioning, resulted in record net interest income," CEO Brian Moynihan said in a statement. BofA's stock, however, has underperformed all of its peers as well as the KBW Bank Index so far in 2025. DEALMAKING REBOUNDS Globally, megadeals reached $1.26 trillion during the reported quarter, a 40% jump from the same period last year, marking the second-highest third-quarter total on record, according to Dealogic data. Overall global dealmaking topped $3 trillion in the first nine months of 2025, reaching the highest level since the pandemic peak in 2021, according to Mergermarket data. Peers JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup also beat estimates for third-quarter profit, helped by strength in their investment banking businesses. (Reuters) -PageGroup's third-quarter profit beat market expectations on Wednesday as the British recruiter cited continued growth in the United States and Asia, sending shares 8% higher.  PageGroup, which focuses on hiring white collar roles, posted gross profit that was slightly above analyst estimates and noted a second consecutive quarter of growth in Asia and 10% growth in the United States.    Global recruiters have been struggling with weak hiring activity as businesses hold back on new appointments and candidates remain reluctant to switch jobs due to economic uncertainty. By Nicolás Misculin BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) -For decades, Lumilagro rode to prosperity on the popularity of its signature steel or glass thermoses Argentines use to carry hot water to make mate, the locally ubiquitous herbal tea. But now, faced with cheaper imports, rising production costs, and declining sales, the over 80-year-old family business has been forced to scale back, its commercial manager Carlos Bender told Reuters. He said it now imports most of the thermoses it offers, at prices up to 30% lower than the cost of producing locally. The company, whose website proudly declares "Made in Argentina," shut down its glass furnace 18 months ago, operates only one of its four assembly lines and has cut its workforce from 160 to 60, Bender said in an office adjacent to its half-empty warehouses, calling the process "very painful." The Lumilagro case is emblematic of a broader challenge facing Argentina under a radical economic overhaul by President Javier Milei, who U.S. President Donald Trump has called his "favorite president." Milei's drastic spending cuts have succeeded in achieving a fiscal surplus, no small feat for a country that has long run steep deficits, and in sharply reducing inflation. But manufacturing has suffered as deregulation has spurred growing competition from cheaper imports that have also benefited from a peso widely viewed as overvalued, as well as reduced consumer purchasing power. In August alone, industrial production fell 4.4% year-over-year. Unemployment in the factory-heavy suburbs of Buenos Aires spiked to 9.8% in the second quarter from 9.1% a year ago, according to the Indec statistics agency. That is hammering support for Milei's coalition – which already suffered a crushing defeat in Buenos Aires provincial elections in September – ahead of this month's crucial midterm elections. Milei's libertarian party and its allies need to increase their presence in the opposition-dominated Congress to advance the president's agenda of free-market reforms and sustain his vetoes of congressional spending bills, which have lately been frequently overturned. After taking office, Milei relied on an inflated local currency, public spending cuts and high interest rates to reduce annual inflation that hovered around 200%. But those policies, especially the overvalued peso, helped trigger an increase in imports, economists say. Milei's government declined to comment. It has said that its policies will put Argentina on a more stable footing and allow it to develop an economy based on energy, mining, agriculture and AI. HURTING MANUFACTURERS Similar dynamics have forced ceramics company Ilva to close its factory in the Buenos Aires suburb of Pilar, leaving 300 of its former workers camped out in front demanding some form of indemnization.  "We didn't expect this, what they're doing to us today, leaving us out in the cold, helpless, and without our wages," said Juan González, one of those laid off, laying the blame for the business' problems squarely on Milei's government.  "Ever since this government came in, sales dropped," he said. "The company gradually declined because, as sales were low, we produced less."  Ilva did not respond to a request for comment.  The economic panorama still has some bright spots, most of them in a burgeoning mining and energy sector, such as the Vaca Muerta shale formation – although there are signs of weakness there as well. Milei's approval ratings slumped to a new low of 39% in September, according to a survey by the University of San Andrés. Polling experts cite weariness with austerity measures, corruption scandals involving his sister, and a perception that Milei's combative and flamboyant persona has started to grate. "People blame Milei for the fact that the macroeconomic stability that he's achieved doesn't help on the microeconomic level," said Marina Acosta, director of consulting firm Analogías. Acosta said that Milei could still benefit, however, from a continued reluctance from voters to support the opposition Peronist party that dominated Argentine politics from the 1940s. On October 26, Argentines will elect 127 deputies — half of the chamber — and 24 senators, one-third of the total. US GIVES ECONOMIC LIFELINE Milei appeared alongside Trump at a meeting at the White House on Tuesday. The U.S. Treasury agreed to provide a $20 billion currency swap line for Argentina this month, offering an economic lifeline to prop up the peso. Washington's continued support was conditional on Milei retaining power and keeping the Peronists out, Trump said. "If he loses we are not going to be generous with Argentina," he added. Either way, U.S. aid is unlikely to improve — at least in the short term — the situation facing local manufacturers. The owner of an automotive parts factory in Buenos Aires, speaking on condition of anonymity, said sales had fallen since Milei took over and that in response it had maintained imports but cut manufacturing in half. The parts his company imports from China cost up to 75% less than those manufactured locally, he added. Luis Campos, an employment analyst for the CTA Autónoma trade union, acknowledged that Milei's policies had produced some stability but that in terms of jobs, "this economic model has already given all it had to offer." "The problem with the winning sectors of the current economic model — large-scale agribusiness, energy, and mining… is that they are not labor-intensive activities," he said. (Reuters) -U.S. grain trader and processor Bunge on Wednesday revised its full-year adjusted profit forecast to reflect the impact of its $34 billion acquisition of grain handler Viterra in the third quarter. The Guangzhou-based company, which listed on Nasdaq in October 2024, said in a filing to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission late on Tuesday that the China Securities Regulatory Commission has issued a notice of filing regarding the proposed global offering and dual primary listing of its class A ordinary shares in Hong Kong. The notice of filing means the Chinese securities regulator has given the deal its go-ahead. The company has filed confidentially to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange for the listing, the sources said. COMPANY HOPES TO COMPLETE LISTING BY YEAR-END, SOURCE SAYS WeRide is aiming to complete the listing in December, said one of the sources and a fourth person with knowledge of the matter. The offering size will likely be about $300 million if the company issues 10% of new shares, said one of the sources. The company's valuation in the Hong Kong listing would be in line with where it is in the U.S., two of the sources said. The Nasdaq-listed company had a market value of about $2.9 billion as of Tuesday's market close after the share price fell 1.3%. The company said in the filing it has a total of 938.4 million ordinary shares outstanding, comprising 883.6 million class A ordinary shares and 54.8 million class B ordinary shares, excluding any shares to be issued under the proposed offering. It said there is no assurance whether or when the offering or listing will be completed. WeRide did not immediately respond to a request seeking comment on Wednesday. "WeRide is unable to comment on queries regarding a potential listing," the company said in an earlier emailed statement to Reuters on Tuesday. "We remain focused on executing our business strategy and delivering value to our stakeholders." Morgan Stanley said it had no comment. CICC did not respond to Reuters requests for comment. The sources did not wish to be identified as the matter was private. Some U.S.-listed Chinese companies are seeking to raise capital via secondary listings in Hong Kong. Such moves have been driven partly by concern over potential forced delistings of Chinese companies from U.S. exchanges since trade relations between the world's two largest economies deteriorated sharply this year. Confidential filings allow firms to navigate the regulatory review process without public disclosure, offering flexibility when listing timelines are uncertain. Founded in 2017, WeRide develops autonomous driving technology and operates robotaxi services in China and internationally, according to its official website and announcements. WeRide shares have fallen about 25% so far this year to trade at $10.62 apiece. It reported total revenue of 127.2 million yuan ($17.8 million) in the second quarter, up 60.8% from a year earlier, while its net loss narrowed slightly to 406.4 million yuan from 413.6 million over the same period, according to its latest earnings release in July. The rivals of the world's largest luxury group also recorded gains, with shares of Hermes, Kering, Richemont, Burberry and Moncler up between 5% and 9%. Analysts saw the results beat as a good sign for continued recovery, with Bernstein highlighting that sales exceeded expectations across all divisions. BETTER RESULTS EXPECTED SECTOR-WIDE JPMorgan analysts said the overall environment was positive enough to expect a generally better luxury reporting season. The rise reported by LVMH on Tuesday represents the first quarter of growth this year for the company, a sector bellwether with operations spanning fashion, alcohol and retail. Its fashion and leather goods division, which accounts for over two-thirds of LVMH profit, improved from the previous quarter but sales continued to decline, down 2%, year-on-year. The group said on Tuesday that sales in mainland China, a traditional growth driver for the sector, turned positive, and that shoppers were responding well to new store experiences, like the ship-shaped boutique set up by Louis Vuitton in Shanghai in June. Sales from travelling Chinese also improved, but remained negative. Chinese appetite for luxury goods has been dampened by a property crisis, compounding overall gloom in the sector, which has also been buffeted by volatility in its other key market, the United States, where trade wars have brought economic uncertainty. RETURN TO GROWTH REASSURES INVESTORS Third-quarter sales were reassuring, said Ariane Hayate, European equity fund manager at Edmond de Rothschild, citing improvements from "idiosyncratic" elements, such as Louis Vuitton's initiatives driving growth in China. Sales in Asia, excluding Japan and dominated by China, accounted for 28% of LVMH's annual turnover last year. The quarterly figures "have indeed surprised investors positively and are likely to keep the sector's share price momentum alive," said Stefan Bauknecht, equity portfolio manager at DWS. Still, with the Chinese property market showing no signs of a significant recovery, economic data suggest only a moderate positive development, he said. Luxury sector shares had begun gaining investor favour in recent weeks, with expectations that sweeping management and creative overhauls will bear fruit. However, LVMH Chief Financial Officer Cecile Cabanis warned on Tuesday that the group would continue to face economic uncertainty and unfavourable exchange rates in the fourth quarter. UBS, which forecasts 4% organic sales growth next year for the group, expects an inflection in sales growth only in the second half of next year, with collections from new designers entering stores starting in the second quarter. (Reuters) -Nissan is recalling 173,301 vehicles in the United States due to a potential issue with blown fuel pump fuses that can cause engine stalling, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Wednesday. The fuel tank temperature sensor harness may have been incorrectly routed, damaging wires and causing a short circuit in the fuel pump fuse, the NHTSA said. The recall applies to three models – the 2013-2021 Nissan NV200 Van, 2014-2017, 2019 Nissan NV200 Taxi, and 2015-2018 Chevrolet City Express vehicles that the Japanese carmaker produced for GM.
