(Reuters) -Universal Music Group, Sony Music and Warner Music Group have licensed their catalogs to Klay, an AI-powered music streaming startup that will let users remake songs using artificial intelligence, Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the deals. Klay is the first AI music service to secure deals with all three major labels and has licensed thousands of tracks to train its model, pledging to give artists as well as labels control over how their works are used, the report said. The startup will combine traditional streaming features from services such as Spotify with AI tools that allow users to remake songs in different styles, according to Bloomberg. UMG, Sony Music, Klay and Warner Music Group did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment. The growing use of generative AI in creative industries has triggered a wave of lawsuits, with artists, authors and rights holders accusing AI firms such as Udio and Suno of using copyrighted material, without consent or compensation, to train their models. Earlier today, Warner Music Group settled a copyright lawsuit with Udio, as they plan to jointly launch an AI-powered song creation platform by 2026, using licensed tracks to protect artists while creating new revenue streams. By Danielle Broadway LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -Matt and Ross Duffer, the twin directors known as The Duffer Brothers, have pushed to raise the stakes with each season of “Stranger Things,” a strategy they say is crucial as the series heads into its fifth and final chapter. The last season of the science fiction series premieres on November 26, and will be released in three parts on Netflix. “We sort of modeled it ('Stranger Things') after 'Game of Thrones.' We like the idea of scaling out or scaling up in sort of the way that movie sequels would,” Matt told Reuters. One of the things that the brothers wanted to take to the next level in the acclaimed series is having bigger visual effects each season. However, more importantly for them, it is the story and characters that continue to entice audiences. “People have a real connection to these characters; they’ve been with us on this journey for 10 years now,” Ross said. “People are going to want to see it ('Stranger Things') come to its conclusion,” he added. Season 5 of the series stars Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven along with Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper and other cast members that reprise their roles from previous seasons. To cap off the series, the Duffer Brothers will debut the “Stranger Things” finale in theaters on December 31, with screenings in more than 350 locations across the U.S. and Canada at 5 p.m. PST. The co-creators are excited for fans to connect in a new way as they say goodbye to the series in front of the big screen. For British actor Millie Bobby Brown, who played the main character since she was 12 years old, finishing the final season was “emotional” and “nostalgic” for her and her co-stars. “The last day we were very present though. It was a very sweet day,” the “Damsel” actor said. While it may be a farewell to the original “Stranger Things” series, Brown is fully up for more science fiction roles in the future. “It ('Stranger Things') has only excited me to step more into that world,” she said. “I never say no until I read a script,” she added. Matt and Ross Duffer announced the launch of Upside Down Pictures in 2022, marking an overall deal with Netflix that will also include a live-action "Stranger Things" spin-off series. The franchise has also spawned the Tony-winning Broadway play,“Stranger Things: First Shadow," as well as video games, cosplay, in-person immersive experiences and merchandise licensing deals. The final season of "Stranger Things" was delayed by dual Hollywood strikes in 2023. (Reporting by Danielle Broadway and Rollo Ross; Editing by Stephen Coates)

(Reuters) -Warner Music Group has settled a copyright infringement case with artificial intelligence company Udio and will jointly launch a new platform for song creation in 2026, the companies said on Wednesday. The new subscription service, which will be powered by AI models trained on licensed and authorized songs, enables new revenue streams for the artistes and songwriters while protecting their work. Universal Music Group has also settled a similar copyright case with Udio last month. The deals come at a time when a surge in AI-generated tracks has triggered some platforms like Deezer to clearly mark AI-generated music due to ethical and copyright concerns. Udio's rival Suno, which raised $250 million at $2.45 billion valuation, has also been caught in a copyright dispute with Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group and Sony Music Group. Both companies allow users to generate songs using AI-powered text prompts. The record labels had sued Udio and Suno last year, alleging the AI companies copied hundreds of songs from some of the world's most popular musicians to teach their systems to create music that will "directly compete with, cheapen, and ultimately drown out" human artists. Udio and Suno said the use of copyrighted sound recordings to train their systems qualifies as fair use under U.S. copyright law, and they called the lawsuits attempts to stifle independent competition. Recently, a Deezer and Ipsos survey reveled that a staggering 97% of listeners cannot distinguish between AI-generated and human-composed songs, fanning fears that AI could upend how music is created, consumed and monetized. A May survey by Luminate found the majority of U.S. audiences were indifferent to or accepting of AI use in cinema tasks like visual effects, but sceptical of AI-written scripts or synthetic actors. (Reuters) -Warner Music Group has settled a copyright infringement case with artificial intelligence company Udio and will jointly launch a new platform for AI song creation, the companies said on Wednesday. Warner's deal follows a similar settlement last month between rival Universal Music Group and Udio, which resolved a lawsuit accusing the startup of using copyrighted recordings without permission to train its models, at a time when a surge in AI-generated tracks has increased pressure on the industry to clearly label such content. For record labels, such agreements with AI developers present an opportunity to expand revenue sources, diminish litigation costs, and utilize sophisticated AI instruments for accelerated song development. Under Warner's agreement with Udio, the companies plan to roll out a music-generation platform in 2026 that will be trained on and offer output based on licensed and authorized recordings.
