By Akash Sriram and Harshita Mary Varghese (Reuters) -President Donald Trump said on Monday he would impose a 100% tariff on all films produced overseas that are then sent into the U.S., repeating a threat made in May that would upend Hollywood's global business model. The step signals Trump's willingness to extend protectionist trade policies into cultural industries, raising uncertainty for studios that depend heavily on cross-border co-productions and international box-office revenue. "Our movie making business has been stolen from the United States of America, by other Countries, just like stealing candy from a baby," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social. However, it was not immediately clear what legal authority Trump would use to impose a 100% tariff on foreign-made films. The White House did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment on how the tariffs would be implemented. Top U.S. studios Warner Bros Discovery, Paramount Skydance and Netflix also did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Comcast declined to comment. "There is too much uncertainty, and this latest move raises more questions than answers," said PP Foresight analyst Paolo Pescatore. "For now, as things stand, costs are likely to increase, and this will inevitably be passed on to consumers," he said. The president had first floated the idea of a movie tariff in May but offered few details, leaving entertainment executives unsure whether it would apply to specific countries or all imports. After the announcement in May, a coalition of American film unions and guilds sent a letter to Trump, urging him to support tax incentives for domestic film production in a reconciliation package being drafted in Congress, aiming to help return more movie and television projects to the U.S. The U.S. film industry recorded a $15.3 billion trade surplus in 2023, backed by $22.6 billion in exports to international markets, according to the Motion Picture Association. FROM AUSTRALIA TO CANADA Studio executives told Reuters earlier this year that they were "flummoxed" by how a movie tariff might be enforced, given that modern films often use production, financing, post-production and visual effects spread across multiple countries. Hollywood has increasingly relied on overseas production hubs such as Canada, the UK and Australia, where tax incentives have attracted big-budget shoots for films ranging from superhero blockbusters to streaming dramas. At the same time, co-productions with foreign studios have become more common, particularly in Asia and Europe, where local partners provide financing, access to markets, and distribution networks.  Industry executives also warn that a broad tariff could affect the thousands of U.S. workers employed on overseas shoots, from visual effects artists to production crews, whose work is often coordinated across multiple countries. By Luc Cohen NEW YORK (Reuters) -U.S. federal prosecutors urged a judge on Tuesday to sentence Sean "Diddy" Combs to more than 11 years in prison this week following the hip-hop mogul's conviction on prostitution-related charges. The prosecutors sought "at least 135 months' imprisonment" and asked the court to fine Combs $500,000, according the court filing.U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian is due to sentence Combs during a hearing on Friday in Manhattan. Combs, 55, faces up to 20 years behind bars after a jury on July 2 found him guilty following a two-month trial on two counts of transporting male prostitutes across state lines to engage in drug-fueled sexual performances with his girlfriends while he watched, recorded video and masturbated. The jury acquitted Combs on the most serious counts he faced, racketeering and sex trafficking, charges that could have landed him in prison for life. Combs pleaded not guilty to all charges and is expected to appeal his conviction. His defense lawyers last week urged the judge to impose a 14-month sentence, arguing Subramanian should not consider evidence of abuse by Combs of his former girlfriends because jurors acquitted him of coercing them into sex. Under such a sentence, Combs would be released by the end of the year because he would be credited for the time already spent in jail at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center following his September 16, 2024 arrest. Combs founded Bad Boy Records and is credited with popularizing hip-hop in American culture. During the trial, prosecutors said Combs coerced two of his former girlfriends to take part in the performances, sometimes known as "Freak Offs." Both women testified that Combs physically attacked them and threatened to cut off financial support if they resisted the encounters. Lawyers for Combs argued there was no direct link between what they called domestic violence and the women's participation in the "Freak Offs", a strategy that ultimately resulted in their client's acquittal on the sex trafficking and racketeering counts.    (Reporting by Luc Cohen in New York; Additional reporting by Shivani Tanna in Bengaluru; Editing by Will Dunham)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman and country music star Keith Urban have separated after 19 years of marriage, various news outlets reported on Monday, citing unidentified sources. The celebrity power couple began living apart in early summer, with Urban moving out of the family home in Nashville, Tennessee, and acquiring his own residence in the country music capital, according to TMZ.com, which broke the story. TMZ and People magazine both reported that Kidman was opposed to splitting up and has been fighting to keep the marriage intact. Reuters was unable to independently confirm the separation. Multiple publicists and management representatives for the two entertainers did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Kidman, 58, and Urban, 57, each launched their respective careers in Australia and hold dual U.S. and Australian citizenship. They met in January 2005 at a Hollywood event promoting Australia, and married in June the following year in Sydney. They share two daughters, Faith Margaret, 14, and Sunday Rose, 17. Kidman has two adopted children from her previous marriage to actor Tom Cruise. Kidman, whose portrayal of author Virginia Woolf in "The Hours" earned her an Academy Award, last shared a photo of herself and Urban together on social media in June to celebrate their wedding anniversary, according to The Hollywood Reporter. THR said Urban most recently posted photos of the couple on his social media in May, after they attended the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards, where the four-time Grammy winner received the ACM Triple Crown. Kidman earlier this month wrapped production on a sequel to the film "Practical Magic" with Sandra Bullock, while Urban has been on tour since May in support of his 11th studio album, "High," THR reported. By Dominique Patton PARIS (Reuters) -L'Oreal Paris drew crowds to a celebrity-packed spectacle outside the French capital's historic Hotel de Ville on Monday, where models and Hollywood icons strutted down an open-air catwalk to celebrate beauty, empowerment and sisterhood. Bright red, black, gold and white dresses, with lots of glitter, adorned the models and actors as they blew kisses to fans and hugged one another in the show on the opening day of Paris Fashion Week. The event was streamed live on Instagram and TikTok, growing channels for beauty product sales. "I think it sets the tone for the week. It fills the night with so much excitement and energy. I'm not a model but it's fun to pretend to be a model," American actress Eva Longoria told Reuters ahead of the show. Other stars strutting for L'Oreal Paris included Andie MacDowell and Viola Davis, both wearing bright red lipstick, Jane Fonda in a tight golden bodysuit, while model Kendall Jenner closed the show in a long, white gown. Brazilian singer Anitta performed midway through the event. L'Oreal Paris is one of dozens of brands owned by L'Oreal, which produces skin serums, hair colouring and perfumes spanning the mass market to high-end luxury. The company holds the licence to produce Armani makeup and was named a preferred buyer in the late designer's will to take a stake in Armani Group. By Olivia Le Poidevin GENEVA (Reuters) -Members of the European Broadcasting Union will vote in November on Israel's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna next year, according to media reports. Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung and the Guardian reported on Thursday that EBU members were informed of the vote in a letter from the organisation's president. "A vote on participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 will take place at an extraordinary meeting of the EBU's General Assembly to be held online in early November," the EBU told Reuters in a statement, without expressly naming Israel. The Kronen Zeitung included a screenshot of the letter which said that the EBU executive board recognised that it could not reach a consensual position on the participation of Israeli public broadcaster, KAN. Reuters could not immediately confirm the letter's authenticity. On September 16, Spanish state broadcaster RTVE's board voted to withdraw from the 2026 contest to be held in May in Vienna if Israel took part in the event. Spain is the fifth country to make such a pledge after the Netherlands, Slovenia, Iceland and Ireland, and the first of the so-called "Big Five" – a group that also includes Britain, Germany, Italy and France. These countries automatically qualify for the contest's final round. Eurovision, which stresses its political neutrality, has faced controversy this year linked to the war in Gaza. In September, a United Nations Commission of Inquiry concluded that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza – accusations that Israel described as scandalous. Several countries had urged the European Broadcasting Union, an alliance of public broadcasters that organises and co-produces the annual event, to exclude Israel from the 2025 edition. Austrian singer JJ, who won this year, has also called for Israel's exclusion in 2026. (Reporting by Olivia Le Poidevin; Editing by Alex Richardson)

Only public service broadcasters who are members of the EBU can take part in the widely watched contest, and KAN is the only EBU member in Israel, the organisation said. KAN did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung reported on Thursday that EBU members were informed of the vote in a letter from the organisation's president, Delphine Ernotte-Cunci. The newspaper included a screenshot of the letter which said that the EBU executive board recognised that it could not reach a consensual position on KAN's involvement in the competition. "Given that the Union has never faced a divisive situation like this before, the Board agreed that this question merited a broader democratic basis for a decision," Ernotte-Cunci said in the letter, which the EBU confirmed. By Jonathan Stempel NEW YORK (Reuters) -Martin Shkreli must face a lawsuit by a digital art collective that owns a one-of-a-kind album by the hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, and accused the convicted former pharmaceutical executive of copying the album and playing it online without permission. In a 32-page decision on Thursday, U.S. District Judge Pamela Chen said Shkreli must face claims he misappropriated "Once Upon a Time in Shaolin" from the PleasrDAO collective, which paid about $4 million for the album in 2021. PleasrDAO is a decentralized group that buys what its members view as culturally significant materials. The Brooklyn judge dismissed some other claims, including two she said were preempted by federal copyright law. Shkreli paid $2 million for "Shaolin" in 2015, but gave it up to partially satisfy a $7.4 million forfeiture order stemming from his 2017 conviction for defrauding hedge fund investors and scheming to defraud investors in a drugmaker. In a statement on Friday, Shkreli's lawyer Edward Paltzik called the dismissal of some claims "a significant step forward in our effort to vindicate Mr. Shkreli, who we unequivocally believe engaged in absolutely zero wrongdoing." PleasrDAO is seeking unspecified damages and profits, and for Shkreli to return "Shaolin" copies he may still have. It sued Shkreli in June 2024, after he allegedly admitted in livestreams to copying "Shaolin" and playing it for his followers, and responded "LOL i have the mp3s you moron" when a PleasrDAO member posted a photo of the album on X. Steven Cooper, a lawyer for PleasrDAO, said Chen's decision lets the collective "fully and aggressively" pursue its case. DIFFERENT FROM PRINCE, JANET JACKSON SONGS Chen said PleasrDAO plausibly alleged it employed reasonable steps to preserve the album's secrecy, including armed security guards and constant video surveillance. She also found "no serious debate" that the album's value was based mainly on its secret and exclusive nature. Chen distinguished the album from unreleased songs by Prince and Janet Jackson that other judges found were not protectible trade secrets. "The independent economic value of the album comes from plaintiff's ability to exploit its exclusivity to create an 'experience' that its competitors cannot, rather than from a public commercial release or from traditional forms of music distribution" for Prince's and Jackson's songs, Chen wrote. She said PleasrDAO "has sufficiently alleged that the album is cloaked with a 'substantial element of secrecy'" to survive Shkreli's dismissal motion. Shkreli, 42, gained the nickname "Pharma Bro" when, as chief executive of Turing Pharmaceuticals in 2015, he raised the price of the life-saving antiparasitic drug Daraprim overnight to $750 per tablet from $17.50. He was released early from his seven-year prison sentence, and banned from the pharmaceutical industry in 2022. The case is PleasrDAO v. Shkreli, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York, No. 24-04126. (Reporting by Jonathan Stempel in New York; Editing by Richard Chang)
