New Delhi [India], September 29 (ANI): Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi inquired about the situation in Karur from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, after the stampede during the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally resulted in the death of 41 people, Congress sources said.

According to the sources, Gandhi also spoke with TVK President Vijay to convey his condolences for the deceased.

The death toll from the stampede has risen to 41, after a woman undergoing treatment at a hospital succumbed to her injuries.

Suguna, 65, a resident of Karur district who had been on ventilator support in the intensive care unit, passed away after failing to respond to treatment.

Among the deceased are 18 women, 13 men, five young girls, and five young boys, bringing the total to 41. So far, 34 victims are from the Karur district, two each from the Erode, Tiruppur, and Dindigul districts, and one from the Salem district.

Earlier, Retired High Court judge Aruna Jagadeesan, appointed by the Tamil Nadu government for a detailed inquiry into the Karur stampede, visited Government Medical College and Hospital here and said that the people injured are “fine” now.

Speaking to reporters following her visit on Sunday, Justice Jagadeesan said, “All are fine in the hospital now. They are getting very good treatment.”

Justice Jagadeesan is heading the one-member enquiry commission, appointed by Chief Minister MK Stalin, to probe the stampede.

In a brief media interaction prior to her Karur visit, she said, “The commission has been set up to address shortcomings. Incidents like this should not occur in the future, and the necessary remedial measures will be taken.”

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, when a massive crowd at TVK chief Vijay’s rally reportedly turned chaotic, triggering panic. Several attendees fainted and were rushed to nearby hospitals. Sources had said that overcrowding at the venue led to the tragedy. (ANI)

Take swift action against BJP leader for threatening Rahul Gandhi: KC Venugopal to Amit Shah

New Delhi [India], September 29 (ANI): Congress general secretary KC Venugopal on Sunday wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding action against a BJP leader in Kerala for allegedly issuing a death threat to Rahul Gandhi during a televised debate.

In the letter to Shah, the Congress leader said that “failure” to act swiftly against “BJP spokesperson” Printu Mahadev will be judged as “complicity and normalisation of violence” against the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, and “grave breach” of oath as the Union home minister.

According to Venugopal’s letter, the BJP spokesperson in the televised debate of News18 Kerala allegedly declared that ‘Rahul Gandhi will be shot in the chest.’

“In a brazen act of incitement of violence, Mr. Mahadev openly declared that ‘Rahul Gandhi will be shot in the chest.’ This is neither a slip of the tongue, nor careless hyperbole. It is a cold, calculated and chilling death threat against the Leader of the Opposition and one of India’s foremost political leaders,” said Venugopal in the letter.

The letter emphasised that these threats not only endanger the opposition leader but also threaten the Constitution and the rule of law.

“That such poisonous words are uttered by an official spokesperson of the ruling party not only places the life of Shri Rahul Gandhi in immediate danger, but also undermines the Constitution, the rule of law, and the basic security assurances owed to every citizen, let alone the Leader of the Opposition,” said the Congress leader, who also posted the letter in a post on X.

Additionally, given incidents like the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) repeatedly sending letters about threats to Rahul Gandhi’s safety and one such letter addressed to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Venugopal emphasised that such remarks are utterly reprehensible.

The Congress secretary also expressed that this behaviour suggests a disturbing and sinister conspiracy, which aims at justifying violence against Rahul Gandhi.

According to the letter, Venugopal said that this threat is not just a careless outburst of a petty functionary; it is a symptom of a deliberately cultivated, toxic atmosphere of hate that renders Gandhi vulnerable to mindless violence.

"Result of five years of deceit": JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra on Ladakh protest

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], September 28 (ANI): The JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra addressed the Ladakh protests on Sunday. Speaking to mediapersons, he claimed that this ongoing agitation is a result of five years of deceit and unfulfilled commitments.

“The current agitation is a result of the deceit of the last five years and the unfulfillment of commitments…” Karra told reporters.

During the discussion of the Ladakh agitation and its resulting violence, Karra alleged that the current protesters were the same individuals who had celebrated the abrogation of Article 370 and had been utilised by the government during that time.

“Today, we want to address a very sensitive and nationally significant issue: the situation in Ladakh. Four people have already died, and around 90 have been injured… Those protesting against the Government of India and local administration are the same individuals who were used by the government during the abrogation of Article 370. They were happy when Article 370 was abrogated…” said Karra.

Earlier today, Congress MP and Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi asked the Centre to “give them the 6th Schedule.” He alleged that Ladakh’s people, culture, and traditions are “under attack by the BJP and RSS.”

In a post on X, Gandhi said, “Ladakh’s amazing people, culture, and traditions are under attack by the BJP and RSS. Ladakhis asked for a voice. The BJP responded by killing four young men and jailing Sonam Wangchuk. Stop the killing. Stop the violence. Stop the intimidation. Give Ladakh a voice. Give them the 6th Schedule.”

Meanwhile, a total of 44 people have been arrested in connection with the violence that occurred in Leh on September 24, which resulted in the deaths of four individuals. Among those arrested is Sonam Wangchuk, a prominent activist and advocate for the implementation of the 6th Schedule in Ladakh. He had been on a hunger strike, which he ended just as the violence broke out.

Later on September 26, two days after the police fired during the protests, leading to the deaths, Wangchuk was detained under the National Security Act (NSA) and is currently being held in Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan. He has been accused of inciting violence. (ANI)

"Give Ladakh a voice. Give them the 6th Schedule": Rahul Gandhi slams BJP for jailing Sonam Wangchuk

New Delhi [India], September 28 (ANI): Alleging that Ladakh’s amazing people, culture, and traditions are “under attack by the BJP and RSS,” Congress MP and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi on Sunday asked the Centre to “give them the 6th Schedule.”

A total of 44 people have been arrested, including activist Sonam Wangchuk, in connection with the September 24 violence in Leh, in which four people were killed. Wangchuk, the main voice behind the demand for the 6th Schedule for Ladakh, was on a hunger strike, which he ended right after the violence unfolded.

In a post on X, Gandhi said, “Ladakh’s amazing people, culture, and traditions are under attack by the BJP and RSS. Ladakhis asked for a voice. On September 26, two days after the death of four people amid firing by police during violent protests in the Union Territory, Wangchuk was detained under the provisions of the National Security Act (NSA) and lodged in Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan. The climate activist has been accused of “inciting violence”.

Addressing a press conference in Leh on Saturday, Director General of Police (DGP) Ladakh, SD Singh Jamwal said that the police have nabbed the main orchestrators of the violence, including activist Sonam Wangchuk.

He said, “We have arrested 44 people so far…The main ring leaders have been nabbed. Sonam Wangchuk, the main player, has been sent out under NSA charges.”

The official alleged activist Sonam Wangchuk’s connection with Pakistan and questioned his visits to the neighbouring countries.

He said, “We arrested a Pakistan PIO in the recent past who was reporting back across. We have a record of this. He (Sonam Wanghchuk) had attended a Dawn event in Pakistan. He also visited Bangladesh. So, there is a big question mark on him…Investigation is being done.”

Sonam Wangchuk has been lodged in Jodhpur Central Jail following his detention under the provisions of the National Security Act (NSA), officials said.

Wangchuk’s arrest comes amid chaos over the recent protests in Leh. The protests turned violent in Leh on September 24, following which the BJP office in the area was set on fire. (ANI)

New Delhi [India], September 27 (ANI): Congress MP and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives in the stampede during TVK chief and actor Vijay’s public rally in Tamil Nadu’s Karur.

In a post on X, Gandhi urged party workers to provide full support to the affected families and work closely with authorities to assist in the ongoing relief efforts.

“Deeply saddened by the tragic incident at a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, that has taken so many precious lives. My heart goes out to their loved ones, and I wish a swift recovery to all those injured. I urge Congress workers and leaders to extend every possible support to the victims and their families, and to work closely with the authorities in relief and rescue efforts,” he wrote.

31 people were killed while 58 others were injured in a stampede at TVK chief and actor Vijay’s public rally in Tamil Nadu’s Karur on Saturday evening, officials said.

The massive crowd at Vijay’s rally turned chaotic, triggering panic and a stampede. Several attendees fainted and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Sources said that overcrowding at the venue led to the tragedy.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deepest condolences on the lives lost in the stampede during TVK chief and actor Vijay’s public rally in Tamil Nadu’s Karur. He wished for the speedy recovery of people injured in the incident.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “The unfortunate incident during a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones. Wishing strength to them in this difficult time. Praying for a swift recovery to all those injured.”

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Mallikarjun Kharge expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede in Karur, Tamil Nadu.

In a post on X, she extended her condolences to the families of the victims, stating, “Heartbroken by the tragic stampede in Karur, TN. My thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones in this unimaginable tragedy. May they find strength in this difficult time, and may the injured recover soon. I urge all Congress workers in the region to promptly assist the injured and support the families and authorities in relief efforts.”

Kharge also expressed deep distress over the tragic stampede at a political rally in Karur. He urged Congress workers to assist victims and coordinate with authorities for relief and medical support.

“Deeply distressed by the unfortunate and tragic stampede at a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, which claimed the lives of several innocent people. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. We pray for the swift recovery of the injured. I urge all Congress workers to provide every possible assistance to the victims and their families and work alongside the authorities in relief and prompt medical assistance,” he posted on X.

DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu Minister Senthil Balaji, who arrived at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Karur following the Chief Minister’s instructions, stated that MK Stalin will visit Karur tomorrow (Sunday) to assess the situation and meet with the victims and their families. He added that instructions have been given to private hospitals not to collect charges from the injured and to provide all necessary medical care.

“Till now, 31 people have died in the stampede, and 58 people have been admitted to the hospital. After the stampede incident, the CM immediately enquired and ordered the district collector, SP, and me to rush to the hospital, advising us to call extra doctors and provide proper treatment… Tomorrow, the Chief Minister will come here himself. As of now, 46 persons are in a private hospital, and 12 persons are admitted to a government hospital for treatment,” Senthil Balaji told reporters. (ANI)

New Delhi [India], September 27 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Saturday slammed West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee over a viral video showing her clapping to a song “Kaaba in my heart” at a Durga Pandal.

Trivedi questioned the timing and context of the song, suggesting it’s part of a larger effort to undermine Hindu traditions.

Trivedi accused the INDIA bloc leaders of harbouring malign thoughts and suspicious emotions, particularly during Navratri celebrations.

“When the entire nation is celebrating Navratri, malign thoughts and suspicious emotions of INDI Alliance leaders are surfacing. In March 2014, Rahul Gandhi said that he needs to fight the ‘Shakti’ in Hinduism. Looks like the attack on that ‘Shakti’ has begun during this Navratri. Recently, the Karnataka government made Banu Mushtaq offer prayers in a Devi temple. Today, WB CM Mamata Banerjee, in a Durga Pandal, clapped and enjoyed a song ‘Dil mein Kaaba, nazar mein Madeena’… There is no issue with it, but what is suspicious is why it is being sung in a Durga Pandal, during Navratri, in the presence of the WB CM…,” said Trivedi.

Notably, the viral video features TMC MLA Madan Mitra singing “Dil mein Kaaba, nazar mein Madeena” at a Durga Puja pandal, with Mamata Banerjee visibly enjoying the performance.

Trivedi claimed that Mamata’s actions are part of a larger strategy to secure radical votes, calling it the “limit of appeasement politics,” highlighting the contrast between the INDI Alliance’s absence at the Ram Temple inauguration and their presence at the Durga Pandal, where they expressed admiration for Islamic symbols.

“Are landmines being spread to fight and attack the ‘Shakti’ of Hinduism and uproot Hinduism?… Singing a song of another religion during Puja is secular for them… This is the limit to secure the radical votes, and the nation needs to be aware of this… This is the limit of appeasement politics… We want a direct answer from INDI Alliance; what is their secular point of view behind singing such a song at a Durga Pandal… These are the people who did not visit the Ram Temple even on invitation; they are now coming to a Durga Pandal uninvited and expressing their love for Kaaba and Madeena. We want to ask Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee what their parties think about this…,” said Trivedi.

Furthermore, he also accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of withdrawing the grant for a particular Durga Pandal, as the pandal had a theme related to Operation Sindoor.

“… Just because a Durga Pandal was based on the theme of Operation Sindoor, it was not just shut down, but the government grant was also withdrawn. Not just towards BJP or BJP leaders, the disrespect towards the Hindu religion and culture by the West Bengal government is overflowing…” asserted Trivedi.

Additonally, Sudhanshu Trivedi also claimed that anti-India statements will emerge from one of Rahul Gandhi’s foreign visits.

“I also want to leave a note for all of you. Mr Rahul Gandhi has gone abroad again. As usual, news of his meetings with suspicious individuals may emerge after this. All of you, be prepared. And then, some anti-India statement will surely emerge from somewhere, from here, from there, from the front door or the back door, from a window or a ‘Roshandaan’. So, all of you, keep a close eye on this,” said Trivedi.

Later, he also slammed the opposition party for questioning PM Modi’s visit to Odisha. “Today, Prime Minister Modi went to Odisha, where he inaugurated several projects and dedicated many development works to Odisha. The BJP government is in power in Odisha, and the main opposition party in Odisha is BJD, but Congress spokespersons are saying who invited Modi ji. I want to ask, who are they? They are neither the ruling party nor the opposition party…” added Trivedi.

Meanwhile, following allegations that BJP posters were removed during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Kolkata, West Bengal Minister Shashi Panja earlier denied the allegations, claiming that BJP workers were trying to defame the Trinamool Congress.

Speaking to reporters, Panja said, “You will see Mamata Banerjee’s posters across the state, not just Kolkata. It is incorrect to say that because the Union Home Minister was visiting, more posters of Didi were put up, and his were removed. BJP workers are trying to defame the Trinamool Congress. These allegations are baseless. We say ‘Jai Bangla’ because all those who stay in Bengal want the state to be victorious.”

She further alleged that the BJP uses the “Shree Ram” slogan for political purposes. “BJP uses Jai Shree Ram as if they are going to war. We worship lord Ram, but you use the slogan to scare people,” she said. (ANI)

Rahul Gandhi embarks on visit to South America, to engage with leaders, students and more, says Pawan Khera

New Delhi [India], September 27 (ANI): Congress leader and party spokesperson Pawan Khera on Saturday announced that senior opposition leader and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi has embarked on a visit to South America.

Informing through his official X account, Khera wrote, “Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Shri Rahul Gandhi, has embarked on a visit to South America. He is scheduled to engage with political leaders, university students, and members of the business community across four countries.”

This marks Rahul Gandhi’s latest overseas outreach after his earlier visit to the United States in April this year.

During the visit, Rahul Gandhi was welcomed at Boston Logan International Airport by members of the Indian Overseas Congress, with Overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda personally receiving him. The Congress party had then posted on X, “LoP Shri @RahulGandhi received a warm welcome at Boston Logan International Airport, Boston, USA.”

The senior Congress leader had also addressed the Indian diaspora in Boston, where he alleged that the Election Commission of India was “compromised.” Citing the Maharashtra elections as an example, Rahul Gandhi claimed there was something fundamentally wrong with the electoral system.

“More people voted in Maharashtra than the total number of people in Maharashtra, and this is a fact… the Election Commission gave us a figure in the evening around 5:30 p.m., and in two hours around 7:30 p.m., 65 lakh voters had voted, which is physically impossible…” Rahul Gandhi said while addressing the gathering.

His remarks triggered criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which accused him of insulting national institutions.

"Paper-chor": Rahul Gandhi targets BJP over UKSSSC paper leak case

New Delhi [India], September 26 (ANI): Congress MP and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi on Friday launched fresh attacks on the BJP, accusing it of being “paper-chor” amid the allegations of malpractice in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) graduate-level competitive examination 2025.

In a social media post on X, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Today, BJP’s other name is – paper chor! The repeated paper leaks happening across the country have ruined the lives and dreams of millions of hardworking youth. The UKSSSC paper leak in Uttarakhand is its latest example. Lakhs of youth worked hard day and night, but BJP has spoiled all their hard work through theft.”

The Congress MP further alleged that the Modi government is only concerned about its power, not about youth unemployment.

“We have been continuously demanding that a strong and transparent system be created to stop paper leaks. But the Modi government is turning a blind eye to this – because they are not concerned about youth unemployment, but about their own power,” the social media post added.

These remarks came a week after he alleged that there was an attempt at mass vote theft in Karnataka’s Aland constituency during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress MP linked the alleged paper leak issue with his earlier accusations of “vote theft,” claiming that unemployment and vote chori were connected.

He said, “Unemployment is today’s biggest problem in the country, and it is directly linked to vote theft. The paper thieves know – even if the youth don’t get jobs, they will remain in power by stealing votes in elections.”

Gandhi further extended his support to the youth and every student, calling it a “fight for justice and democracy.”

“The youth are on the streets and chanting the slogan – ‘Paper Chor Gaddi Chod!’ This is not just a fight for the youth’s jobs; this is a fight for justice and democracy. I stand firmly with every student and youth in this fight for justice,” the Congress leader posted on X.

Earlier today, amid the allegations of malpractice in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) graduate-level competitive examination 2025, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami appealed to the youth to remain cautious of those exploiting their interests.

“…I appeal to all the youth that they should decide who are leading their movement, those who are bringing the youth onto the streets to serve their own interests, have no connection with the youth or the recruitment process. But our commitment is that just as we have made 25,000 appointments transparently without any corruption, we will do the same,” Dhami told reporters here.

He further stated that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had been formed for the investigation, and decisions would be made in the best interests of the students.

Furthermore, the CM said that it was ‘unfortunate’ that the government was being targeted by taking cover under the guise of the students.

“We have constituted an SIT for the investigation of the incident that has come to light… Whatever decision needs to be taken, we will take it in the interest of the students, but it is unfortunate that the government is being targeted by taking cover under the students…” he said.

The Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) graduate-level competitive examination 2025 has come under intense scrutiny following allegations of malpractice, prompting the state government to launch a judicially supervised probe.

On Tuesday, Uttarakhand Police arrested Khalid Malik, the main accused in the alleged paper leak of the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) exam question paper. Prior to this, the police had also arrested his sister.

Retired Justice BS Verma, former judge of the Uttarakhand High Court, Nainital, has been appointed to supervise the investigation to ensure fairness and transparency throughout the process.

An official memorandum issued by Home Secretary Shailash Bagoli states that Justice Verma will monitor the Special Investigation Team (SIT) tasked with probing the case. He will also have the authority to visit various districts, review complaints, and guide the SIT as needed.

On September 24, the government formed a five-member SIT to investigate the malpractice allegations comprehensively.

The SIT will be headed by Jaya Baluni, Dehradun Rural Superintendent of Police, who will lead efforts to uncover the facts and identify those responsible for the alleged irregularities. (ANI)

"Inspiration for all of us": Rahul Gandhi pays tribute to Manmohan Singh on his birth anniversary

New Delhi [India], September 26 (ANI): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid tributes to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his 93rd birth anniversary on Friday.

In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi recalled Manmohan Singh’s contribution to the Indian economy.

“On the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh ji, I pay my humble respects to him. His unwavering commitment to nation-building, his bold decisions for the poor and deprived, and his historic contribution to building a strong economy will continue to guide us. His simplicity, humility, and integrity are an inspiration for all of us,” the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha wrote on X.

Born on September 26, 1932, Manmohan Singh was an eminent economist and served as the Reserve Bank of India Governor from 1982 to 1985. Between 1991 and 1996, Singh served as India’s Finance Minister, during which he played a pivotal role in implementing comprehensive economic reforms that earned him worldwide recognition. He was India’s 13th Prime Minister, holding office from 2004 to 2014.

For many, his name remains synonymous with the transformative changes of that era. His government introduced landmark initiatives such as the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), later renamed MGNREGA, and the Right to Information Act (RTI) in 2005, which significantly improved transparency between the government and the public.

Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge also paid homage to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his 93rd birth anniversary, calling him a man of humility and wisdom who carried himself with “quiet dignity”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to Manmohan Singh on his 93rd birth anniversary, recalling his contributions to the nation during his years in public life. (ANI)

Chirag Paswan criticises Rahul Gandhi, calls Congress leader's allegations on voter list malpractices ''wrong"

New Delhi [India], September 25 (ANI): Union Minister Chirag Paswan on Thursday said Special Intensive Revision has been brought to remove the malpractices in the electoral process, adding that it is not right for Congress Rahul Gandhi to criticise the poll body, when it is actually working towards finding a solution in this matter.

Speaking to reporters, Paswan said, “Every time he (Rahul Gandhi) comes and speaks, he emphasises only on something that led to the commencement of the SIR process. He comes again and again and speaks about malpractices in the voter list. That is precisely why SIR has been brought in. On one hand, you complain and on the other hand, you have a problem with the solution for that complaint.”

“This won’t do. If you have an issue with this system, there are laws for it. But just levelling allegations is wrong,” he added.

This comes after Rahul Gandhi held a press conference in Delhi on September 18 and accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of “protecting vote chors”. He had earlier warned the BJP of an impending expose, stating that he would soon unleash a “hydrogen bomb” about his allegations of vote theft, as what was shown about Mahadevpura was just an “atom bomb.”

“The actual meaning of the ‘hydrogen bomb’ would only be known when the Congress leader made an explosion,” Paswan quipped.

He further alleged that the CEC is fully aware of how fraud is happening in deleting and adding fake voters in the voter list. He stated that he has “10 per cent proof” that the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is “protecting vote chors (vote thieves)”.

Gandhi also claimed that there was an attempt to delete more than 6,000 voters’ names from the Aland constituency in Karnataka. (ANI)
