* Copper is up 5% so far in September * Tin hits highest in almost six months (Updates prices) By Polina Devitt LONDON, Sept 29 (Reuters) – Copper prices rose on Monday, supported by a weaker dollar and concerns over global supply after an accident at the world's second-largest mine. Benchmark three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange added 2.4% to $10,418 a metric ton by 1604 GMT. The metal is up 5% this month after hitting a 15-month high of $10,485 on Thursday as analysts lowered supply forecasts for 2025 and 2026 after disruption at the Grasberg mine in Indonesia. "We remain supportive on copper price prospects following the tightening of the copper concentrate market on the disruption and force majeure at Grasberg," said Standard Chartered analyst Sudakshina Unnikrishnan. The Grasberg minerals district suspended operations on September 8 after a deadly mud slide at the biggest of its three underground mines. A slew of stronger-than-expected U.S. economic data pressured the dollar, making dollar-priced metals more attractive for buyers using other currencies. Top metals consumer China said that it was targeting average production growth in non-ferrous metals of about 1.5% this year and next. For 2023 and 2024 the targeted average production growth was 5%. China's industrial profits returned to growth in August, but factory activity probably shrank for a sixth straight month in September, a survey of economists showed. Official purchasing managers' index data is due on Tuesday. Among other LME metals, tin gained 2.9% to $35,440 a ton after hitting $35,510, its highest since April 4, after a report that Indonesia ordered the closure of around 1,000 illegal tin mines in a key producing region. The spread between LME cash prices and the three-month tin contract was last at a premium of $25 a ton compared with a discount of $50 on Friday. LME aluminium rose 0.9% to $2,679, zinc added 1.9% to $2,941.50, lead lost 0.4% to $1,995, and nickel was up 1.0% at $15,320. ATHENS, Sept 29 (Reuters) – Greece wants to buy four used Bergamini class frigates from Italy, Defence Minister Nikos Dendias said on Monday, as the NATO member seeks to modernise its navy. High-ranking officials from the two countries signed memorandums for naval cooperation, Dendias said in a statement after a meeting with his Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto in La Spezia in Italy. "One of the memorandums opens the door to acquire two FREMM frigates with an option to buy two more," Dendias said without giving details of the cost. Greece plans to spend about 28 billion euros as part of a multi-year defence plan that includes the purchase of a fourth Belharra frigate from France and new submarines as it tries to keep pace with historic rival Turkey. Greece has a long-standing dispute with its NATO ally Turkey over maritime waters, energy resources and airspace in the eastern Mediterranean. Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo tore his triceps in Sunday's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is likely headed to injured reserve, ESPN reported Monday. Okoronkwo will reportedly undergo more testing to determine the severity of the injury, which apparently occurred in the second quarter of Philadelphia's 31-25 win over Tampa. Sunday's win was the first game action Okoronkwo had seen since the veteran signed with the Eagles in late July after he was released by the Cleveland Browns with one year left on a three-year, $19 million contract. Okoronkwo, 30, recorded 23 tackles and three sacks in 16 games (five starts) last season. A Super Bowl champion with the Los Angeles Rams, Okoronkwo has totaled 132 tackles and 17 sacks in 80 career games (13 starts) with the Rams (2019-21), Houston Texans (2022) and Browns. He was selected by the Rams in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The Eagles were already down an edge rusher, with Nolan Smith also on IR with a triceps injury. He is expected to be back sometime in November. In the absence of Smith and Okoronkwo, Philadelphia will have to rely on Jalyx Hunt, Za'Darius Smith, Josh Uche, Patrick Johnson and Azeez Ojulari, an off- season acquisition who was a healthy scratch for the first four games of the season.
