HAMBURG, Oct 3 – The Taiwan Flour Millers' Association purchased an estimated 80,550 metric tons of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States in a tender on Thursday, European traders said on Friday. The purchase involved various wheat types bought in two consignments for shipment from the U.S. Pacific Northwest coast in November and December The wheat was all sold by trading house Bunge. At a meeting ahead of the national Chuseok thanksgiving holidays, Lee told South Koreans who had families in the North that he hoped for an easing of hostility and resumption of cooperation. It is a political responsibility for the two Koreas to allow the split families to communicate with each other and exchange letters from a humanitarian perspective, Lee told the families during his visit to a border island with North Korea. About 36,000 South Koreans separated from their families in the North have requested the government for reunions, according to South Korea's Unification Ministry. The last family reunions between the two Koreas were hosted in August 2018, but have been halted amid frosty inter-Korean relations since. In February, North Korea was seen dismantling a facility used for the family reunions, a signal of its strained ties with the South. MELBOURNE, Oct 3 (Reuters) – Life is moving fast for 15-year-old winger Akeem Gerald who is targeting regular football for Melbourne City after becoming the youngest player to feature in an Asian Champions League match this week. The club's academy prodigy only signed a professional contract two weeks ago but came off the bench in the 84th minute of Wednesday's 1-0 away defeat by Japanese champions Vissel Kobe. By Dharamraj Dhutia MUMBAI, Oct 3 (Reuters) – Indian government bond yields declined in early deals on Friday, with the 10-year benchmark bond yield hovering around the crucial 6.50% mark as the market awaited the auction of a new 10-year security for further directional cues. The yield on the 10-year benchmark note was at 6.5078% as of 10:15 a.m. IST, after ending at 6.5166% on Wednesday. Indian debt markets were shut on Thursday for a public holiday. India will auction a fresh 10-year government bond later in the day to raise 320 billion rupees ($3.61 billion). This comes after New Delhi raised the share of the 10-year bond in its October-March borrowing plan. "A new 10-year paper right up at the start of the quarter would set the tone for overall demand-supply dynamics, and it is crucial that the cutoff comes below 6.50%," trader with a primary dealership said. Bond yields declined in the previous session after the Reserve Bank of India kept its policy rate unchanged at 5.50% as expected, but said that low inflation had opened up policy space for supporting growth. The central bank raised its economic growth forecast for the financial year by 30 basis points to 6.8% and reduced its inflation forecast by 50 basis points to 2.6%. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said ongoing tariff and trade policy uncertainties will affect external demand. Most market participants now expect a rate cut in December, after a pause in August and October. The RBI has cut rates by 100 basis points since the start of the year. RATES India's overnight index swaps (OIS) eased on Friday, as market became more comfortable with the idea of a rate cut in December. The one-year OIS rate was at 5.4150%, while the two-year OIS rate was at 5.3950%. The five-year OIS rate was trading 5.6550%. The MSCI EM Asia Index eased slightly on the day but remained on track for a weekly rise of 3.8%, set for its biggest weekly increase since September 12. A similar gauge, the MSCI Asia-Pacific index touched a record high and was set to advance 3.5% for the week. Trading was muted on Friday, but regional stocks wrapped up a strong week of risk appetite, lifted by upbeat local headlines and renewed enthusiasm around artificial intelligence. Emerging-market equities are still trading at a discount to developed peers, at 12.4 times forward earnings — close to their 25-year average, said Charu Chanana, chief investment strategist at Saxo. With their share of global assets under management slipping to 5% from 8% in 2017, the asset class remains under-owned and could gain if investors rotate out of recent winners into overlooked markets, she added. Taiwan’s benchmark climbed more than 1.3%, rising to a record for a second day. The index is on track for its sixth weekly gain, a run last seen in early 2024, powered by surging demand for AI-linked semiconductor stocks. South Korea's Kospi was closed on Friday, but was up 4.8% for the week as of Thursday. Philippine and Indonesian shares rose 0.3% each, while Malaysia slipped modestly but was still set to end the week in positive territory. Manila equities were on course to rise 0.5% for the week.
