US sees big jump in flight delays tied to staffing issues

WASHINGTON, Oct 8 (Reuters) – U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on Wednesday that flight delays tied to air traffic staffing issues have jumped dramatically in recent days as a government shutdown enters its eighth day. "Historically, there's about a 5% of delays that is attributed to staffing issues in our towers. Last couple days it has been 53%," Duffy said on Fox News. "My message to the air traffic controllers who work for DOT is show up for work — you have a job to do."
