PETARDS BEING LAUNCHED DURING CLASHES STORY: The streets of Udine became the stage for clashes between police and protesters on Tuesday (October 14), at the end of a mostly peaceful march against the Italy v Israel World Cup qualifier that was being played in the city. The march – attended by over 5,000 participants according to preliminary police estimates – wound its way through the city centre from late afternoon, before the match at the Friuli Stadium kicked off at 20:45 (1845 GMT). At the end of the march, some protesters threw firecrackers and crowd control barriers at anti-riot police, who responded with water cannon and tear gas. The Ansa news agency reported that a journalist was injured in the clashes and rushed to hospital. (Production: Alex Fraser, Roberto Mignucci, Yesim Dikmen, Matteo Negri)
