VIDEO SHOWS: HIGHLIGHTS FROM GAME ONE OF AMERICAN LEAGUE DIVISION SERIES BETWEEN SEATTLE MARINERS AND DETROIT TIGERS COMPLETE SCRIPT TO FOLLOW SHOWS: SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, UNITED STATES (OCTOBER 4, 2025) (MLB – See restrictions) SHOTLIST TO FOLLOW STORY: Zach McKinstry's broken-bat RBI single with two outs in the top of the 11th inning broke a tie as the Detroit Tigers defeated hosts Seattle Mariners 3-2 Saturday (October 4) night in the opener of their best-of-five American League Division Series. Kerry Carpenter hit a two-run homer for the Tigers, who are set to send ace Tarik Skubal to the mound in Game 2 on Sunday. Will Vest (1-0) pitched two innings of scoreless relief for the victory and Keider Montero worked the 11th for the first save of his career. Julio Rodriguez homered and had a run-scoring single for the Mariners. Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh both went 3-for-5, but the rest of Seattle's lineup was 0-for-28. Five Mariners relievers combined for five hitless innings before Carlos Vargas (0-1) walked Spencer Torkelson leading off the 11th. Torkelson took second on a wild pitch, then after Munoz struck out the next two, scored on McKinstry's first-pitch single up the middle, just out of the reach of diving shortstop J.P. Crawford. Rodriguez broke a scoreless tie, leading off the fourth with a homer to straightaway center field on a 2-2 fastball from Tigers starter Troy Melton. Detroit answered in the fifth as Parker Meadows hit a one-out single to right and Carpenter launched a 1-2 sinker from Mariners starter George Kirby over the fence in right an out later. It was Carpenter's fifth hit in 11 career at-bats against Kirby — all home runs. The Mariners tied it in the sixth off reliever Rafael Montero. Randy Arozarena drew a leadoff walk and Raleigh singled to right-center, sending Arozarena to third. Rodriguez lined a single to right to make it 2-2. Tyler Holton entered and got Josh Naylor to ground into a double play and Jorge Polanco to line out to right to end the inning. Kirby allowed two runs on six hits over five innings. The right-hander walked one and struck out eight. Melton, a rookie making his fifth career start, went four innings and gave up one run on two hits. The righty walked one and fanned four. VIDEO SHOWS: HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MLB GAME BETWEEN MILWAUKEE BREWERS AND CHICAGO CUBS SHOTLIST TO FOLLOW SHOWS: MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, UNITED STATES (OCTOBER 4, 2025) (MLB – See restrictions before use) STORY: Ace right-hander Freddy Peralta shook off a leadoff homer and pitched effectively into the sixth inning to pace the Milwaukee Brewers to a 9-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday (October 4)  in the opener of their best-of-five National League Division Series. Cubs starter Matthew Boyd (0-1) failed to get out of a six-run Milwaukee first inning. The Brewers added three runs in the second, batting around in both innings to go in front 9-1. Peralta (1-0), who led the National League with 17 victories during the regular season, allowed two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings, striking out nine and walking three in a 95-pitch outing. He allowed the opening homer by Michael Busch and a two-out solo homer in the sixth by Ian Happ. By the time Happ hit his solo homer and Nico Hoerner added a solo homer for Chicago off Jared Koenig in the eighth, the game was long since over. The Brewers answered Busch's homer with six runs off Boyd in the bottom of the first. Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang and William Contreras opened with consecutive doubles to put Milwaukee up 2-1. Andrew Vaughn walked with one out, then Contreras scored when second baseman Hoerner booted Sal Frelick's grounder. With two outs, Blake Perkins capped an 11-pitch at-bat with an RBI single to center to make the score 4-1 and chase Boyd after 30 pitches. Michael Soroka relieved and walked Joey Ortiz to load the bases. Chourio followed with a two-run single to left to make it 6-1 — Hoerner's error making the final four runs unearned. Milwaukee made the score 9-1 in the second. Contreras, Yelich and Vaughn opened with consecutive singles to load the bases. Caleb Durbin drove in two runs with a one-out single to make it 8-1. Aaron Civale relieved Soroka and Chourio beat out an infield RBI single to third – making him the first player in postseason history to register three hits in the first two innings. Boyd registered just two outs while allowing six runs (two earned) on four hits, one walk and one strikeout. Soroka gave up three runs on five hits in one inning, walking two in a 38-pitch outing. Chourio, who missed most of August with a strained right hamstring, was removed for a pinch runner after legging out that infield single. Chourio was diagnosed with right hamstring tightness and underwent an MRI. The second game of the best-of-five series will be in Milwaukee on Monday night. (Production: David Grip)

VIDEO SHOWS: HIGHLIGHTS FROM GAME ONE OF NATIONAL LEAGUE DIVISION SERIES BETWEEN PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES AND LOS ANGELES DODGERS COMPLETE SCRIPT TO FOLLOW SHOWS: PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, UNITED STATES (OCTOBER 4, 2025) (MLB – See restrictions before use) SHOTLIST TO FOLLOW STORY: Teoscar Hernandez hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning to lift the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-3 victory over the host Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 of the National League Division Series on Saturday (October 4). Shohei Ohtani uncharacteristically allowed three runs on the mound and struck out four times, but Los Angeles rallied against Cristopher Sanchez and the Philadelphia bullpen. Enrique Hernandez had a key two-run double for the Dodgers. Sanchez gave up two runs and four hits in 5 2/3 innings before David Robertson (0-1) and Matt Strahm combined to surrender the lead. J.T. Realmuto knocked in two runs for the Phillies, who will aim to even the series when the teams reconvene for Game 2 on Monday. Sanchez struck out Ohtani on three pitches to open the game as part of a 1-2-3 first inning. He allowed a pair of baserunners in the second, but retired Andy Pages on a strikeout to end the threat. That set the stage for Philadelphia to score three times in the bottom of the second, highlighted by Realmuto's two-run triple. Two batters later, Harrison Bader lofted a sacrifice fly to deep left to make it 3-0. In the fifth, Alex Call led off with an infield hit against Sanchez, who then retired the next three hitters — including a pair of strikeouts — to keep the visitors scoreless. However, Los Angeles finally got to Sanchez in the sixth. Freddie Freeman drew a two-out walk and Tommy Edman singled to set the stage for Enrique Hernandez's two-run double that made it 3-2 and ended the night for Sanchez. Robertson opened the seventh by allowing a single and a hit batter. Strahm then came on and retired Ohtani and Mookie Betts before Hernandez lofted a 1-0 pitch over the wall in right-center. Ohtani (1-0) allowed three runs and three hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out nine in his first career postseason start. Tyler Glasnow and Alex Vesia combined to get the Dodgers through the seventh and eighth innings. Vesia came on with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth and got pinch hitter Edmundo Sosa on a fly ball to center. Roki Sasaki worked around a one-out double in the ninth to earn the save.
